Sideshow and Hot Toys unveil six-scale figures of T’Challa Star Lord and Zombie Captain America, both from the Marvel Studios series What If …?
Sideshow has announced two new additions to Hot Toys’ What If…? Marvel line of sixth-scale figures at 2022’s San Diego Comic-Con.
T’Challa Star-Lord and Zombie Captain America are the latest sixth-scale collectible figures announced for the What If…? collection. Sideshow will have these figures available soon. They join an already extensive collection which includes Infinity Ultron and Zombie Hunter Spidey. Narrated by the Watcher (Jeffrey Wright), Marvel Studios’ first animated series, What If…? , explored pivotal moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and reimagined them in unexpected ways. Many MCU actors reprised their roles in animated series.
T’Challa Star Lord first appeared in “What If… T’Challa Became a Star-Lord?,” the second episode of the animated series. Chadwick Boseman played T’Challa in the MCU film’s opening. The episode explores what would have happened if Yondu Udonta and the Ravagers abducted a young T’Challa instead of Peter Quill, which was shown in the opening of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The episode received positive reviews from critics, who praised its plot and voice performances. Boseman, who passed away in 2020 after a lengthy battle with colon cancer, received a nomination for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance at the 74th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
More Zombies in Marvel’s Future
Zombie Captain America debuted in What If…? ‘s fifth episode, “What If… Zombies?!” Hank Pym enters the Quantum Realm in an attempt to save his wife Janet van Dyne. Janet is infected by a quantum virus, which has made her a zombie. She infects Hank before they return to Earth and over the next 24 hours, the virus spreads across the world infecting the majority of the population, including the Avengers. The episode proved so popular with fans that Marvel Studios announced a Marvel Zombies animated series in November 2021, which will serve as a continuation of “What If… Zombies?!” “Zombies?” and will focus on the next generation of heroes fighting zombies. Zeb Wells will serve as head writer on Marvel Zombies while Bryan Andrews, who helmed the What If…? episode that introduced the alternate universe, will direct the first season.
Fans can join Sideshow’s RSVP list to be notified when the Hot Toys figures for T’Challa Star-Lord and Zombie Captain America become available. All episodes of Marvel’s What If…? Season 1 are now streaming on Disney+ with Season 2 expected to premiere in 2023.
