The Scarlet Witch, also known as Wanda Maximoff, is a late-game character in Marvel’s Midnight Suns who packs a massive punch. While not playable until after being rescued from Lilith’s corruption, Wanda is a powerful magic user that is valuable to any team. Players will want to focus on her large-scale attacks to best utilize this character instead of worrying about targeting.
Because Scarlet Witch comes so late in the game, players may already know which characters work well together and have already found a go-to team composition that they favor. Because Wanda’s abilities work best for large areas and can have increased potency when she is near them, players will want to pair her with characters that can either target others, buff her attacks or weaken enemies, or act as tanks like Captain America.
Hex Bolt+ Can Chain Multiple Enemies
Beginning with the attack category, players will want two Hex Bolt+ cards in their deck. Each one not only adds a chain to all Hex Bolt cards but also has the effect of Chain 2. With these, Scarlet Witch can attack multiple enemies in one go while gaining a Heroism. The benefit of this card, especially to Scarlet Witch, is that it gives players the option to either attack multiple enemies or, if the round is down to one strong opponent, they can chain the attack on a single foe.
Hex Field+ Stops Enemies Near Wanda
Hex Field+ is an excellent option if Scarlet Witch is ever surrounded. This attack will damage all enemies near Wanda for a substantial amount of damage and add one Heroism. Able to quickly KO weaker enemies or wound strong ones for a teammate like Nico to promptly dispatch with a chain attack, this move will help clear the field fast. This is also useful in the sense that Wanda is not a tank character and is made to deal as much damage as quickly as possible.
Unleashed+ Increases Scarlet Witch’s AoE
Moving on to skills, two copies of Unleashed+ go well with many of Scarlet Witch’s abilities — mainly with attacks like Hex Field+. This skill will increase the size of abilities by 40% for two turns and grant 2 Heroism. A fantastic boost for a character whose focus is on the field, this can expand Wanda’s attacks to encompass large portions of the play area, potentially wiping out large swaths of enemies in one strike. When boosted by someone like Doctor Strange, the increased range potentially coupled with weakened enemies can make Scarlet Witch a very dangerous adversary.
Hex Mark+ Can Be Used to Refund Card Plays
The last skill card for Scarlet Witch will be Hex Mark+. This card applies 3 Marked to each enemy in the area, causing them to refund a card play when KO’ed by a subsequent attack. When combined with Hex Field+, this card’s ability to cause card refunds increases dramatically as more enemies are eliminated. To increase the chances, should the only enemies nearby be strong, this move could be combined with another heavy hitter like Ghost Rider, who can target a single enemy to land a devastating blow.
Chaos Reigns+ Turns Enemies Against Each Other
The final category of cards, heroic, will start with Chaos Reigns+. The name gives a big hint as to what this card can do, transforming the field into a chaotic mess by turning enemies in a selected area against each other. While they will only attack once, there is a 50% chance that they may attack one another a second time. This card comes at the cost of 3 Heroism, but is worth it to deal some significant damage and can be used to help a friend who may be getting overwhelmed by injuring all enemies near them.
Detonate+ Literally Explodes
Detonate+ triggers explosives with a 100% increased damage radius. Because of this card’s large area of effect, it protects Scarlet Witch and her allies by making them immune. While it comes at the price of 2 Heroism on redraw, players will gain Heroism. A fantastic way to quickly dispatch enemies without endangering any allies, Detonate+ is a must-have for any Scarlet Witch deck.
Because Scarlet Witch focuses heavily on area of effect moves, players will want to be cautious with teammates. Someone like Iron Man would not be the best to utilize with her, as he can make radius attacks and mark targets. As mentioned, players will want to focus on teammates who can weaken foes or boost Scarlet Witch. Strong tank characters who can draw fire are also strong choices. Seeing as her passive ability, Wrong Place, Wrong Time, which is gained via the friendship system, gives a 25% chance to debuff enemies near Wanda, the best choice is to use a strong support companion.
