Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man, is one of the first characters players can experience in Marvel’s Midnight Suns. In the tutorial, players get a taste of Iron Man’s capabilities as a heavy hitter with aspects that make him an incredible all-around character. A good deck for Tony will allow him to build Heroism, so he can land devastating blows quickly.
Tony’s arsenal allows him to be played however someone wants. He has abilities to help his team, or he can deal heavy damage. Iron Man can also pick up slack in other roles by playing him as a more balanced character. However, potentially the best way to use him is to deal massive amounts of damage while using teammates like Nico or Doctor Strange to boost his abilities and keep him alive.
Quick Blast+ Adds a Card While Dealing Damage
The only attack cards needed are two copies of Quick Blast+. A decent attack that does 50% offense damage while generating a Heroism point, the value of this card comes from its effects. With the Quick effect, a card play is refunded. Adding that this attack also allows an Iron Man card to be drawn, it essentially offers an entirely new play for free. This card can also be redrawn to add the knockback effect that adds space between Tony and his enemies and increases damage with environmental impacts.
Air Superiority+ Helps Thin the Herd
For Heroic cards, players will want two copies of Air Superiority+. This card damages every enemy on the field, and a redraw will add 70 damage. A quick way to reduce multiple enemies’ health while wiping out weaker foes, Air Superiority+ can change the tides of a long battle. Combined with characters like Doctor Strange, who can offer support to boost attacks, this card can be devastating at the cost of four Heroism.
Surgical Strike+ Chains Massive Damage
The last Heroic card to add to Iron Man’s arsenal is Surgical Strike+. Equipped with the Chain status effect, Surgical Strike+ can deal 125% offense damage for each Iron Man card in the player’s hand. If this card cannot kill the enemies it is used on, it can still severely lower their health. This combo could quickly eliminate multiple opponents prior to an attack like Nico’s Witchfire+.
Mark Target+ Keeps the Action Going
Wrapping up Tony’s deck with skill cards, Mark Target+ not only helps to generate more plays but also makes enemies weaker. With the ability to add both the Marked and Vulnerable status effects, this card helps guarantee its own KO to generate more plays thanks to the Vulnerable ability, which increases damage by 50%. The plus version of this card gets the added benefit of Redraw, adding 2 Marked to nearby enemies. Additionally, Mark Target+ will generate two Heroism once played.
Leave It to Me+ Reduces Heroic Cost
Leave it to Me+ not only generates two Heroism but reduces the Heroism cost to use Heroic cards. This card has the player gain 2 Fast, which reduces Heroic card cost by one while also adding 2 Iron Man cards to the player’s hand as well as two redraws. Adding redraws is a massive bonus for Tony, as quite a few cards in his deck can gain added effects with a redraw.
New Plan+ Builds Up Heroism
When things are looking bleak, New Plan+ can brighten the day. This card doubles the current Heroism and allows the player to draw a Heroic card. If a player has Air Superiority+ in their hand after doubling their Heroism, they can turn around and unleash a wave of damage on their enemies.
Like all characters in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Iron Man has a passive ability. “I’ll Handle This” allows the player to add one Redraw per turn if two Iron Man cards are in the player’s hand. This ability benefits the player should they end up in a situation where nothing in their hand will help, and can activate the boost to Tony’s cards upon Redraw. The unique format of Marvel’s Midnight Suns means that, even though players may have powerful cards, they can’t always be used, so abilities like Tony’s are essential to get out of rough situations.
