Being one of the first tank characters players will encounter in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Captain Marvel is a powerful addition, given the proper deck.
Captain Marvel, or Carol Danvers, is one of the first tank heroes the player will encounter in Marvel’s Midnight Suns. Captain Marvel is a powerhouse who can dish out damage and take it, making her a perfect sword and shield. Therefore, players will want to build up Binary when forming a deck to maximize Carol’s abilities.
Because of Captain Marvel’s status as a tank, players can choose a few different methods when building a deck. They can either focus on defense or offense or go for a balanced approach. The technique for this deck is to deal massive amounts of damage while building Binary to boost Carol’s abilities even further. Additionally, pairing Captain Marvel with a strong support character like Doctor Strange can help push her to the next level and allow her to draw attention away from the support.
Quick Jab+ Directs Enemies Toward Captain Marvel
The first attack card for Captain Marvel will be Quick Jab+. Not only does this card deal 50% offensive damage, but it also has the Quick status, which refunds a card play on KO. It also has the Taunt status, which draws enemy attention to Captain Marvel — a great strategy to keep them away from support class characters who may not be able to take as many hits. If Carol has Binary, Quick Jab+ gains the Knockback ability to create some space.
Cosmic Ray+ Takes Advantage of Taunted Enemies
A solid follow-up to Quick Jab+, Cosmic Ray+ allows players to boost their damage to 75% instead of 50% if the attacked enemy is targeting Captain Marvel. If the move KOs the opponent, a Counter will be added. Cosmic Ray+ is a fantastic way to exploit the Taunt status.
Knee Strike+ Builds Up Captain Marvel’s Block
The final attack cards for Captain Marvel’s deck will be two copies of Knee Strike+. This attack taunts the enemy, drawing their focus on Carol and allowing her to gain Block equal to the damage dealt. At a hefty 75% offense, this is not a small amount. Like most attack cards, Knee Strike+ will also generate Heroism once played.
One Step Ahead+ Adds Captain Marvel Cards
The next category of cards, Skill, should begin with One Step Ahead+. This card allows the player to draw Captain Marvel cards until they have four in hand. It will also generate two Heroism when played. The only way to fill the Binary meter continuously is to play Captain Marvel cards, making characters with redraw decks like Iron Man bad matches, as they will flood the hand with their cards.
Bring It On+ Draws Enemy Attention While Providing Protection
Wrapping up Captain Marvel’s Skill cards is Bring it On+. Bring it On+ taunts all enemies in an area, drawing their focus to Carol. It also generates one Counter. If Captain Marvel has Binary, she will gain two Resists, allowing her to tank more hits. Additionally, Bring it On+ will generate two Heroism once played.
Rain of Blows+ Consumes Heroism for Damage
Moving on to Heroic cards, Rain of Blows+ will consume all Heroism to deal damage for each point. Each blow will deal 60% offensive damage, though players will want to be careful as this card consumes all Block as well. Since Block is how Captain Marvel can absorb so much damage, these cards must be played strategically. Keeping in mind the unique battle style of Marvel’s Midnight Suns, players want to be aware of status effects, as they can hinder characters more than help them.
Supernova+ Damages Many Enemies Simultaneously
Supernova+ is a legendary card for Captain Marvel, damaging all enemies in an area and generating two Heroism once played. This card is a quick way to weaken or KO many enemies at a time. Given her Taunt ability, there will likely be times when Carol is surrounded on all sides, so being able to dispatch many foes is very important.
Binary is Captain Marvel’s bread and butter, as filling the meter generates a Go Binary card, allowing Captain Marvel to gain Binary, Block, and 50% health. Additionally, Binary is a strong status effect for Captain Marvel, increasing her offense by 100%. However, she needs to be careful not to use the card when preparing Rain of Blows or when in any position to lose all Block. The Binary effect is removed if Carol has no Block. Aside from her Binary power, Captain Marvel has the Didn’t Feel a Thing passive ability. Didn’t Feel a Thing II has a 20% chance to gain a counter on KO.
