The X-Men have a tough time of things. Being a mutant is much harder than being superpowered in other ways, with the ugly specter of racism always raising its head. The X-Men are forced to protect not only their own people but the rest of the world who hate and fear them.
The X-Men are easily the toughest superhero team to be a member of, even with the prosperity of the mutant nation of Krakoa. However, there are some X-Men who have always been lucky. While their compatriots struggle with circumstances, they are always catching breaks that others don’t. Their lives as X-Men have been much better than their fellow members.
10/10 Cyclops Has Had A Series Of Lucky Breaks
Cyclops is one of the most reliable X-Men, and he’s honestly lucky to be there. He almost died on the night he and his brother bailed out of their parents’ crashing plane, but instead just got brain damage that changed his powers. In fact, if he hadn’t left the plane, the Shi’Ar would have killed him or enslaved him. He survived years under Mister Sinister’s care because of his genetics.
Cyclops was taken in by Charles Xavier, who decided to make the downhearted young man the leader of the X-Men in order to give him a purpose. Bad things have happened to Cyclops over the years, but they are usually his own fault and have little to do with luck. As it is, he’s survived a number of times because of pure luck.
9/10 Captain Britain Is A Lot Luckier Than She Seems
Elizabeth Braddock is way luckier than most people realize. To begin with, she was born into a very wealthy British family. Her blindness was cured by cybernetic eyes given to her by Spiral. There was a drawback to them — Mojo was spying on the X-Men through them — but getting them was still lucky. She switched bodies with Japanese assassin Kwannon, which was very lucky because her British body eventually died of the Legacy virus.
Elizabeth would later be put back into a copy of her old body, and she gained the power of Captain Britain, which gave her amazing strength and durability. She’s constantly getting lucky, lucking into better circumstances than before.
8/10 Egg’s Powers Were Much Greater Than Anyone Realized
The mutant now known as Egg was once called Goldballs. Back then, everyone thought his powers were the ability to manifest multiple simple gold spheres. It was sort of handy in combat, but most of the time, his survival was more down to luck than anything else. He survived being with Cyclops’s terrorist X-Men faction and soon realized that he was greater than he could have imagined.
It was soon discovered that his gold balls were actually eggs. This earned him a place among the most important mutant circuit, the Five, and made Krakoan resurrection possible. He went from being a joke to a celebrity in the mutant community.
7/10 Sunspot Has Led A Charmed Life
Sunspot went from being a reckless New Mutant to a reckless X-Man to a reckless member of the Avengers and back again, all the while remaining a wealthy mogul. He was born into a very rich Brazilian family, has amazing powers which allow him to absorb solar radiation and convert it to strength, durability, and heat blasts, and is charming and good-looking.
Sunspot’s life has always been blessed. Even the bad times, like when he was running around with X-Force, were still pretty great because he was fabulously wealthy. Sunspot’s luck has always been a defining characteristic in his life, and that doesn’t look to change any time soon.
6/10 Cannonball Is As Lucky As He Is Good
The original New Mutants have all changed over the years, but Cannonball is easily the most accomplished. He was always one of the team’s higher-ups and took over X-Force after Cable left, leading the team to victory multiple times. He was the first New Mutant to graduate to the X-Men and pulled off a coup when he singlehandedly beat Gladiator.
Cannon made an amazing X-Man and eventually joined the Avengers alongside Sunspot. While there, he met his future wife, Smasher. At the end of his tenure with the team, he’d retire to the Shi’Ar Empire with her, and the two had a child. Since then, he’s just been taking it easy.
5/10 Storm Has The Luck Of A Goddess
Storm is a Marvel legend. While it’s impossible to say she’s never had any bad luck — the loss of her parents, the claustrophobia that came from that situation, losing her powers for a time are all examples of that — but the good outweighed the bad. Her powers made her into a goddess of the African plains. She met T’Challa, and the two fell in love, a chance meeting that would be huge for her in the future.
Storm is one of the few Marvel heroes to be a member of the X-Men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four. She’s an amazing leader and an even better friend, with everyone who knows her willing to give their lives for her. Storm has earned so much of what she has, but her lucky breaks have made a huge difference in her life.
4/10 Gambit Is All About The Luck
Reckless X-Men are a dime a dozen, but Gambit makes it look easy. The former thief is a person who depends on luck nearly as much as skill. Gambit has always been about gambling, letting Lady Luck decide. He’s been on the winning side of things more often than should be possible, as things have a tendency to go his way.
Gambit believes that the world revolves as much around luck as it does around skill. He’s been known to throw caution to the wind and let luck decide, something that has worked out more than it should have. Gambit is very good at what he does, but he’s also very lucky.
3/10 Longshot’s Power Gave Him All The Luck He Needed
Longshot is an interesting case when it comes to luck because his luck was put into him. In the Mojoverse, beings are created specifically for the gladiator pits, given powers and abilities to make the bouts more exciting. Longshot’s power was luck. Sure, he was bred with extreme agility and hollow bones to make him faster, but he was always one step ahead of everyone and his shots always connected.
Longshot escaped the Mojoverse and joined the X-Men, meeting his future lover Dazzler and becoming a superhero. Longshot was literally among the luckiest X-Men. It was his stock in trade; in fact, it was quite lucky for him this power was given to him. Otherwise, he’d have been dead years ago.
2/10 Jubilee And Luck Walked Hand In Hand For Years
Not every Marvel hero has great powers, something that has held Jubilee back for a long time. Her ability to fire off plasma fireworks has grown over the years, but in her younger days, luck was definitely the name of the game. She was lucky to join the X-Men, lucky to get taken under Wolverine’s wing, and lucky to survive as long as she did.
Jubilee has grown into an accomplished and skilled hero who understands how to use her powers and knows her way around a battlefield. That’s all because of luck, though. Jubilee was constantly in situations that should have killed her, but she got through with bull-headed gumption and sheer luck.
1/10 Nightcrawler Was Dealt A Bad Opening Hand, But His Luck Made Up For It
Among the X-Men’s strongest fighters, Nightcrawler has always been special. He’ll take on all comers with a smile, his acrobatic fighting style perfectly complimented by his mutant skills. It’s easy to believe that Nightcrawler isn’t lucky; his mutation gave him demonic looks that made him a target. However, his luck quickly changed when he joined the X-Men.
Nightcrawler was able to find a family of people of who would love and accept him. This allowed him to reach his potential as a person and hero. Nightcrawler wouldn’t call it luck, as he’s a religious man, but he knows that a lot of his successes came from something besides his skills.
