Marvel has announced an upcoming documentary about the comics legend Stan Lee for 2023.

Marvel Entertainment teased the upcoming documentary, Stan Lee: An Original Documentary, in a short teaser trailer on its official Twitter page. With the tagline “100 years of dreaming. 100 years of creating. 100 years of Stan Lee,” the documentary will air sometime in 2023, streaming exclusively on Disney+. Lee famously created many of comics’ most celebrated heroes, including Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and Daredevil.

Fans Celebrate Stan Lee’s Life on His 100th Birthday

The announcement comes as fans celebrate what would have been Lee’s 100th birthday on Dec. 28. Although Lee passed away in 2018 at the age of 95, Marvel fans and creators have continued to celebrate the legend every year. Many took to social media today to remember the Marvel writer with stories and art, including some celebrities like James Gunn and Kevin Smith.

Artist Humberto Ramos also celebrated Lee’s birthday earlier in December, drawing him among several of the iconic characters he had a hand in creating. Marvel Entertainment posted the image to its Twitter account on Dec. 7 to kick off a month of honoring Lee with new posts every week. The company reposted Ramos’ artwork on Dec. 28 for Lee’s 100th birthday, along with a blog post remembering his legacy and marking some of his most prominent creations.

DC announced its own celebration of Lee with Tales From Earth-6: A Celebration Of Stan Lee. The anthology will include ten stories featuring Lee’s versions of several DC characters, including Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. While promoting the upcoming collection, Wonder Woman writer Stephanie Williams spoke with CBR about the “surreal” experience of working with Lee and how his work impacted her.

“[Stan Lee] says that entertainment is something we look forward to, no matter the form of media,” she said. “It’s an honor to create things that offer audiences a range of emotions to experience, and I don’t take it lightly. Now that I am on the side of creation, I take those words to heart even more and make sure I bring my best to everything I have the opportunity to work on.”

Stan Lee: An Original Documentary launches on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
