A page on Sony’s PlayStation Store, now removed, has fans speculating that Insomniac will soon drop a new trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Earlier this year, Insomniac unveiled the first trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and fans have eagerly awaited an update since then. The video game developer raised hopes recently when Sony’s PlayStation Store updated the upcoming game’s page.
With little to no fanfare, the PlayStation Store’s UK front opened up Marvel’s Spider-Man 2‘s page, allowing users to add the game to their wishlists. Moreover, Insomniac community director James Stevenson encouraged fans of the budding franchise to add it. It’s worth noting that Stevenson had earlier shared a gif featuring Peter Parker and Miles Morales from the first trailer, without any explanation. At the time of writing, the page appears to have been removed.
The small update has fans across social media speculating that a second trailer for the game is imminent. However, Insomniac has made no official announcements yet. Some are going further and speculating that the page suggests a 2023 release date. It is worth reiterating, no official announcements have been made and no release date is available on the store page.
Few details have been released about the plot and characters of the upcoming game. The initial trailer confirmed that Venom will appear, though it is uncertain if the classic comic book host, Eddie Brock, will be the face within the symbiote suit. It has also believed that the mysterious voice heard in the trailer belongs to Kraven the Hunter, though at the current time, this has not been confirmed.
The Success of Marvel’s Spider-Man
Marvel’s Spider-Man was released in 2018 exclusively for PlayStation 4. It received critical acclaim upon release for its gameplay and graphics, along with its storyline and the depiction of Peter Parker and the cast of characters that surrounded him. The game featured classic characters, including Mary-Jane Watson, Aunt May and Otto Octavius, Scorpion, Vulture, Electro, Rhino and more, along with relatively newer characters such as Miles Morales and the supervillain known as Mister Negative.
Miles starred in the standalone follow-up, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which continued his journey and saw him come to terms with his newfound abilities. The game is set after the original’s base game and the three DLC expansion packs, collectively titled The City That Never Sleeps. Like the original game, the Miles-focused spinoff received high praise from critics and gamers alike.
Marvel’s Spider-Man is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is expected to be released sometime in 2023.
