One of Marvel’s Ghost Riders just turned a hellish creature into the Midnight Suns’ new ride.
The Midnight Suns — Wolverine, Magik, Blade, Nico Minoru and Kushala/Spirit Rider — are trapped in the Dark Dimension. Written by Ethan Sacks and illustrated by Luigi Zagaria, a preview for Midnight Suns #3 shows the heroes exploring their surroundings when they are set upon by giant bats. Being that Magik is unable to teleport them anywhere, Spirit Rider hops onto one of the bats and turns it into a flaming steed for the Midnight Suns to travel on.

The Midnight Suns were transported to the Dark Dimension by the realm’s Sorcerer Supreme, Clea Strange, who is responsible for blocking Magik’s teleportation. In the wake of Doctor Strange’s death, Clea has filled her late husband’s cloak and taken on the role of being Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme. In the Midnight Suns miniseries, every magic user on the planet experienced a vision of an apocalypse on the way, and since the Midnight Suns were part of it, Clea sent them away to prevent the vision from becoming a reality.
The vision shows Strange Academy student Zoe Laveau bringing about the end of the world alongside the demon lord Valtorr. After the vision, agents of Valtorr arrived at Strange Academy to capture her, followed by Doctor Doom and then Clea. The Midnight Suns defended Zoe, but she is now hidden away and under the protection of Agatha Harkness, who has faced Valtorr in the past.
The Midnight Suns Make a Comeback With a New Comic Series and Video Game
While Marvel’s Midnight Suns or “Sons” team has existed since the 90s, Sacks and Zagaria’s five-issue miniseries marks the team’s first official title. Past iterations of the ensemble have featured different members than its current roster, including the likes of Morbius, Ghost Rider Johnny Blaze, Danny Ketch and more. The current miniseries debuted months prior to the expected release of the Marvel’s Midnight Suns video game in Dec. 2022.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns will be an AAA RPG game featuring several other familiar faces from the Marvel Universe. Blade, Magik and Nico Minoru are playable in the game, but they are joined by Captain America, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider Robbie Reyes, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch and Spider-Man. Gamers who purchase the season pass for Midnight Suns will also be able to play as Deadpool, Venom, Morbius and the X-Men’s Storm.
Along with Sacks and Zagaria, Midnight Suns #3 is colored by Antonio Fabela and lettered by VC’s Joe Sabino. Main cover art for the issue is by David Nakayama, with variant cover artwork contributed to by In-Hyuk Lee and Seamas Gallagher. The issue is now on sale from Marvel Comics.
