Coming from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, people might be surprised at just how powerful Namor was in the film. After all, he spent most of the movie embarrassing anyone he fought, from the United States military to some of the strongest fighters in Wakanda.
Namor wasn’t overpowered because he was new and they wanted to give him a strong introduction. Namor’s been an incredibly powerful character dating back to his introduction into the Marvel Universe in Marvel Comics #1 in 1939 by Bill Everett, Paul Gustavson, Ben Thompson, Carl Burgos, and Al Anders. Namor’s fought everyone from Thor to the Hulk, and it’s rare he doesn’t find himself on top.
10/10 Namor Matched Thor’s Strength, Blocking Thor’s Hammer With His Trident
In Secret Wars #4 by Jonathan Hickman, Ive Svorcina, Esad Ribic, and Chris Eliopoulos, Thanos and his group seek to find answers to the incursions land on Doom’s Battleworld, a collection of Marvel’s What-If universes. There, they encounter members of the Thor Corps, a group of Thors from different multiverses assigned to keep the peace on Battleworld.
While all of them are likely not as powerful as the original Thor, Namor still blocked a full-powered attack from Mjolnir with just his trident. Considering Thor has the strength of a god, Namor being able to stop one of his attacks suggests just how dangerous the Atlantean can be in combat.
9/10 Namor Ripped A Sentinel’s Arm To Beat Another One Up
Mutantkind has been struggling to deal with sentinels for decades now. Although they were originally slow, plodding giants, future models have become increasingly more dangerous. For Namor, however, the sentinels still weren’t a challenge, even with the upgrades.
While on a mission to clear his name from a terrorist attack, the government sends a group of sentinels at Namor, right outside of Xavier’s School for the Gifted. Namor dismantles them in seconds, ripping the armor off one sentinel and using it to bash the other to pieces.
8/10 Namor Fought Evenly With The Hulk Multiple Times
Any fight with the Hulk is always going to be hard to judge, because the Hulk can only get stronger as a fight goes on. When the Hulk fell under the Puppet Master’s control, he attacked Namor and found that the Prince of Atlantis wasn’t going to be defeated so easily.
Instead, the two of them fought to a standstill, and eventually Namor beat Hulk enough to get him in the water, depriving him of oxygen long enough to transform him back into Bruce Banner. Hulk and Namor have been fighting for years, and Hulk rarely gets a blatant victory over Namor, suggesting the two are more equally matched than they may appear.
7/10 Namor Knocked Out Wolverine With One Punch
During the Civil War era, Namor was on the hunt for the supervillain Nitro for killing Namorita in his attack on Stamford. Wolverine had agreed to protect Nitro in exchange for valuable information, so when Namor and his Atlanteans arrived, Wolverine had to stand between them and Nitro.
Even though Wolverine successfully dealt with some of Namor’s fellow soldiers, he was no match for the Submariner himself. Instead, after Wolverine thought he’d stabbed Namor and taken him out, Namor got back up and knocked Wolverine out with a single punch.
6/10 Namor Held A Submarine Over His Head
Writers often want to tell Namor stories about his pro-environment nature. Considering he lives in the ocean and people are often taking advantage of the ocean, it makes sense. During these stories, Namor’s often more powerful than any other time in combat.
So it isn’t a surprise that Namor’s displayed the ability to lift an entire submarine that’s ninety feet tall above his head and out of the oceans. Submarines vary in how much they weigh, going anywhere from 35 tons at the smallest to nearly 50,000 tons at the largest. Considering Namor has no problem slugging it out with the Hulk, it’s doubtful anything under 50 tons phases him.
5/10 Namor Exchanged Blows With A Kree High Elite
The Kree are constantly sending their soldiers to Earth for one mission or another. However, they usually send normal Kree soldiers to accomplish their goals. While searching for a particularly powerful weapon, the Kree High Evolutionary sent one of their High Elite, Tanalth.
Tanalth has roughly the same amount of power as Ronan the Accuser and wields the same kind of weapon. Although Tanalth’s strength was great, Namor drew blood from his opponent with a single punch. Namor didn’t win the fight, since it was based on technology rather than pure strength, but he held his own.
4/10 Namor Took Out The Red Hulk
When the Red Hulk was first introduced, Marvel went out of their way to demonstrate how powerful he was. He beat up Thor, the original Hulk, and Silver Surfer. Not many people walked away with a win for the first couple of years Red Hulk was around, but when he delved into the ocean to help Namor deal with a threat from Klaw, Red Hulk learned a new lesson.
Red Hulk taunted Namor one too many times under the ocean, causing Namor to believe Red Hulk was partially at fault for this latest undersea attack. Namor smacked Red Hulk around easily, despite being heavily weakened, then knocked him back topside.
3/10 Namor Easily Tore Through A Celestial
The Celestials are some of the most powerful and well-defended beings in the Marvel Universe. They’ve been responsible for creating sentient life on multiple planets, and even their leftovers could shoot a society forward centuries. So when Mr. Sinister hacked into the body of the Sleeping Celestial, the X-Men immediately set to work, stopping his latest plan.
Before Sinister could get too much further, Namor attacked the Celestial and ripped its head off. Even more impressive is after doing so, he began tearing into the head to keep it from doing any damage to the nearby city. All Namor needed was an Imperius Rex cry to handle the job by himself.
2/10 Namor Tossed A Tank Into A Plane
Namor has often found himself at odds with different corporations and militaries over the years, but it’s not always about defending the oceans. Namor’s also defended friends who’ve stood by his side. After being saved by a man named Hiram Dobbs, Namor fought against a company trying to take Hiram’s island from him.
Even when they brought tanks and soldiers, Namor was completely unfazed, reminding people just how strong he can be. In the middle of a pitched battle, Namor was able to fling a forty ton tank thousands of feet into the air to hit a 747.
1/10 Namor Lifted A Pillar Supporting Utopia Island
Namor’s most impressive physical feat involved protecting his home as King. When New Atlantis found itself under attack by terrorists, both Utopia and Atlantis were in trouble. A quake generator almost destroyed the pillar holding up Utopia Island out of the ocean and from crashing into New Atlantis.
Although Namor had a mage capable of repairing the pillar, it required him to hold up the island long enough for her to do so. Pushing his incredible strength to the limit, Namor kept the island above water until his allies could recover the pillar.
