A.X.E. Judgment Day was Marvel’s big 2022 event, spinning out of the events of Eternals. Written by Kieron Gillen with art by Valerio Schiti, it pits the Eternals and X-Men against each other as the new Prime Eternal Druig tries to consolidate his power. Ajak and Makkari, with a kidnaped Mr. Sinister in tow, went to the Avengers, along with the team and Phaestos, and created a new Celestial for the Eternals to worship so the war would end, the Progenitor.
This went very badly, which is the crux of the story. Nevertheless, this exciting event was full of powerful characters, giving readers some thrilling battles, both in the main book and in tie-ins.
10/10 Jean Grey’s Power Was Integral To The Endgame Against The Progenitor
The X-Men’s Omega class mutants are very powerful, with Jean Grey’s telepathy making her a force to be reckoned with. During the conflict, she helped defend Krakoa from an Eternal attack, but would play a key role later. Her job was to cloak a small team of heroes from the Progenitor’s mental detection while they snuck inside its body.
Throughout the various battles, Jean constantly proved just how powerful she could be. She was able to hold back the mental probes of a god and helped during the pitched battle within the Celestial. Even without the Phoenix Force, Jean’s power is amazing.
9/10 Starbrand Was With The Avengers But Didn’t Do Much
The Starbrand is an interesting power in the Marvel Multiverse. It first appeared in what was known as the New Universe, on Earth-148611. It’s basically a part of the universe’s natural defense system against threats and gives its bearer amazing cosmic powers. In the 616 universe, it took over Kevin Walker during the Incursions and has had several hosts since then.
The latest is Brandy Selby. Still a young girl, she helped the Avengers battle Mephisto and was made a part of the team, like Kevin was before her. She didn’t actually do much during the conflict, but is consistently among the Avengers’ most powerful members in the field.
8/10 Sersi’s Power To Manipulate Matter Makes Her An Eternal Powerhouse
Each Eternal is very powerful in their own right, imbued with limitless cosmic energy by the Celestials. Each of them can manipulate matter to an extent, but none of them has the power Sersi does. Sersi’s ability to manipulate matter is her greatest attribute, allowing her to convert materials into anything she wants.
During the event, she helped in the making of the Progenitor and helped fight against it later. Sersi was the person to bring the Avengers on board with the plan to build the Celestial, as she was a former Avenger, and used her powers to help rectify the mistake later.
7/10 Ikaris Is The Eternals’ Greatest Warrior
Ikaris is called the arrow of the Eternals for good reason. For a million years, Ikaris has been their greatest warrior. He’s held his own against enemies like Thanos and the Hulk. He has the requisite variety of powers that all Eternals have – super strength, durability, cosmic energy manipulation, flight, and psi-powers.
His experience in battle is unprecedented. The only people who can even get close to that are his fellow Eternals, and few have ever been able to best him in battle. He helped fight against his own people during their attack on Krakoa and was instrumental in helping defeat the Progenitor.
6/10 Professor Xavier Was Able To Hold Back The Uni-Mind
Professor X founded the X-Men, his dream of human-mutant cooperation being the team’s cornerstone. He’d also work behind the scenes to build the mutant nation of Krakoa, eventually taking a leadership position. Xavier is the most powerful telepath on Earth, which came in handy when the Eternal attack on Krakoa began.
The Eternals formed a Uni-Mind, combining their powerful psi abilities to mentally attack the mutants of the island. Xavier was able to hold back their attacks, directing Emma Frost and other mutant telepaths in defense. He took the brunt of the assault, dying many times, and was constantly resurrected. He is the first being in history to hold back the Uni-Mind so efficiently.
5/10 Magneto Helped Battle Uranos On Arakko
Magneto’s joining the X-Men has made him an unlikely Marvel hero, something he proved during the battle for Arakko. Druig unleashed the most dangerous Eternal of them all, Uranos, on Arakko for an hour. The Eternal slaughtered the war-hardened mutants of the planet, and Magneto stood against him. It didn’t matter very much, as Uranos blasted a hole in the mutant.
Magneto survived, using his magnetic powers to keep his blood pumping with a heart of magnetic energy and helped fight back against Uranos’s arsenal. Later, with Storm pumping more electromagnetic energy into him, Magneto had revenge on Uranos, defeating him. He died after this, but proved just how powerful he really is.
4/10 Echo Has The Phoenix Force
The X-Men and the Phoenix Force have been linked for years. However, the most recent time the Phoenix Force came to Earth, the Avengers dealt with it. There was a contest for who would become its host, with Wolverine being the only mutant to compete. However, the vigilante Echo won, and she’s been the Phoenix ever since.
Much like Starbrand, Echo didn’t actually do much during the battle. The Avengers didn’t get involved until the Progenitor began to judge the human race. However, her power did come in handy during those final moments of the war.
3/10 The Hex Eternals Were Powerful Siege Engines
The Hex Eternals were a part of the armory that Uranos created millennia ago to destroy all life on Earth. They aren’t machinery, but actual living Eternals that can be brought back to life when destroyed. They are Themax, Tetytrona 3000, Rheaka Centaurus, Thieka the Harpiscus, Phebe Reginax, and Syne the Memotaur.
The six brutally attacked Krakoa, causing the Five to work overtime resurrecting the island nation’s defenders. They were able to bring down Syne, but she was just resurrected. The Hex were called off after the Progenitor was born, but the devastation they caused was amazing.
2/10 Uranos Is The Most Powerful Eternal On Earth
Many Marvel villains have high kill counts, with Thanos foremost among them. The entire universe fears him, but during his short stint as Prime Eternal, he met someone who made even him quake in fear. Uranos was an Eternal who had fought against Zuras in the early wars for who would rule the then-young race. He was so powerful and dangerous he had to be imprisoned in the Exclusion, a prison outside of reality.
Druig unleashed him on Arakko for an hour, where he and his arsenal of drones did irreparable damage, killing thousands. Uranos’s power was barely touched during the attack, as even Arakko’s most powerful couldn’t phase him. He was defeated by Magneto before the mutant died, and as repayment has to help the people of Arakko when asked.
1/10 The Progenitor Almost Destroyed All Life On Earth
Marvel’s Celestials are superlatively powerful, traveling the universe and seeding worlds with life. On Earth, they took humans and made the Eternals, who worshiped the Celestials as gods. The Celestials left them ages ago, with the religious Eternals bereft of the gods they used to converse with. Ajak and Makkari, the two current high priestesses of the Eternals, decided to use that religious longing to stop the war between their people and the mutants.
With the help of Sinister, Phaestos, and Iron Man, they created the Progenitor. This new god’s first act was to begin judging the people of Earth individually before using those judgments to decide whether to destroy the planet. The heroes tried to stop it several times, but were finally able to trick it into judging itself first. Finding itself wanting, it killed itself, ending the war and the threat it posed to the people of the Earth.
