Thanos and Frieza are the big villains of their respective universes, the MCU and Dragon Ball, but who would win in a battle of galactic conquerors?
Thanos and Frieza, two galactic powerhouses who made their debuts on the page before becoming villainous pop culture icons, have a lot more in common than people may realize. The world of Dragon Ball has had to deal with Frieza time and again, whose persistent nature has brought him back from death multiple times to face Goku and the rest of the Z fighters. Meanwhile, the Thanos of the Marvel Cinematic Universe transcends time and space to fulfill his destiny of wiping out half of all life to restore balance to the universe.
The two galactic conquerors laid waste to their respective galaxies, but if it came down to it, which one would come out of a battle between them victorious? The answer isn’t so simple, but it’s definitely entertaining.
Thanos Has an Army That Makes the Frieza Force Look Weak
The battle between the two galactic conquerors would need to include their respective forces, and when it comes to who has more backing, it’s Thanos who comes out on top. In numbers and strength, Thanos has Frieza’s aptly titled Frieza Force easily beat. Look no further than the show of strength in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Thanos has a massive army filled with all sorts of creatures, from Chitauri to his “children” known as the Black Order, that are incredibly powerful. The members of the Black Order, such as Ebony Maw to Proxima Midnight, whose cunning nature rivals their strength, give even The Avengers a run for their money.
Frieza does have considerable numbers in his troops, but the Frost Demon’s soldiers don’t have the strength or loyalty that Thanos commands from his underlings. While some would prove to be a problem, such as classic Dragon Ball villains Captain Ginyu and Tagoma, if the two groups collide, Thanos’ army would undoubtedly lay waste to the Frieza Force because of their numbers alone. The Avengers needed multiple armies to stay in the fight, and that’s not even considering how they had to face Thanos himself along with his army. However, while the military behind Frieza isn’t as powerful as Thanos’, Frieza himself could serve as a formidable opponent to the Mad Titan in a one-on-one fight.
Frieza’s Multiple Forms Are Potentially Stronger Than Thanos
The fact that Frieza is one of the main antagonists in a Shonen anime is more than enough reason to give the character an edge over Thanos. Theoretically, the Mad Titan is at the height of his power in The Avengers films he’s appeared in. Meanwhile, Frieza has only continued to demonstrate his ability to grow stronger when he feels like training. Frieza’s latest form that debuted in the manga, titled Black Frieza, had given Goku and Vegeta a run for their money at their current peak strength, which is saying a lot as the two Saiyans are more powerful than anyone in the MCU.
In a battle of power, Frieza’s many forms could easily hold their own against Thanos. While Thanos has taken down the likes of Thor and The Hulk, he was nearly defeated by a powered-up Captain America with Mjolnir before quickly getting an advantage in the fight. Moreover, even with the full power of all six Infinity Stones, Thanos was rather quickly dealt with by Thor with Stormbreaker, showing it’s possible to take him down despite Thanos’ having the most powerful artifacts in the MCU. Frieza has held his own against the strongest beings in his universe and others, competing in a tournament of power that shows Frieza is more than capable of dealing with Thanos, with no known limits to his strength (for now.)
Verdict: Frieza Is Stronger Than Thanos
While Thanos’ power had massive ramifications in the MCU, Frieza’s strength has been proven formidable in more than one universe. Frieza only continues to push himself whenever necessary resulting in new forms that could put Thanos in his place. As unbreakable as the Titan’s skin may be, Frieza would eventually wear him down. Thanos has a powerful army at his disposal, but Frieza’s destructive capabilities to destroy entire planets could easily do away with such a large force.
However, Thanos is no pushover and would indeed put up a fight. The Mad Titan is a master tactician and skilled fighter powerful enough to wield Infinity Stones, meaning Frieza would have to put effort into the battle to come out victorious. It’s a close call, but Frieza would end up proving too durable for Thanos to beat, and whether it’s one form or another, Frieza would find a way to win.
