Marvel Studios was busy this year, with new movie releases for Doctor Strange: Love and Thunder and Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness . The MCU was relaunched with Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel , which brought Kamala Khan to the larger Marvel Universe for her debut story.
Kamala was a big part of her journey. She is the MCU’s most passionate fan. Before gaining her superpowers, she referred to other heroes in the MCU. She is expected to interact with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes more often in her future adventures, after appearing in The Marvels ,. This will give her the opportunity to discover what it means to be a member of the superteam.
In addition to all the nods made to Avengers, some similarities were drawn to Kamala and her powers. Fans now know more about Kamala’s mythology and her history thanks to an interview with Ms. Marvel ‘s chief writer.
Ms. Marvel Author on Thor Easter Egg Impact

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly. Ms. Marvel Head writer Bisha K. Ali gave new insights into Kamala’s abilities and history with Clandestines.
Asked about their decision to introduce the djinn to play, Ali referred to Islam’s mythology and history while explaining how her emotions were influenced by the revelation:
“Hmmm, djinn exist in a long-running mythology which predates Islam. We were actually thinking about her emotional journey and where she came from. It’s evident in every aspect of her life. From her daily routine, going to school to Eid, and her everyday life to her wedding day. It’s not clear why this would stop. Perhaps we are afraid of demeaning others. This is not how I work. “
Specifically looking at the “Pakistani experience,” Ali noted how important it was to the “Pakistani writers in the room” to include the historical connection in the show the right way. There was no need to use negative connotations about the djinn in mythology or how they affected the people who brought the story alive.
We’re talking about the djinn, but we are referring to Pakistani experiences. It’s a historical notion that when something appears supernatural, or to be bad, people accuse it of being connected to the djinn. It has a very negative connotation. It doesn’t matter if it is true theologically, or in mythology. But culturally, it was used in a way that we use it as a term.
After Episode 3’s revelations regarding the djinn, she moved to Episode 4 where Waleed explains to Kamala why the classification of the djinn.
” I mean that if Thor had landed in the Himalayan Mountains, he would also have been called “a Djinn.” – Waleed in Episode 4
She recalled Waleed’s conversation to Kamala in which he mention Thor, something she thought might be called a “djinn” since he is something new:
“In episode 3, Kamala is told that although they have many names, the most common name for us all is djinn. This makes it the worst thing she can do. Here is when her fantasies completely crumble. Waleed tells us that it is only when we encounter the Red Daggers, “Well, yeah, they call them Djinn because of some strange paranormal stuff.” We would call Thor a Djinn if he showed up. We do the same thing. We would phrase it this way. “
The most important thing for all members of the writing group was to think about perceptions and how they relate to the story.
” The whole show is all about perception. How we see stories, and how others perceive us. It all connected thematically. “
Thor Another Unknown in Ms. Marvel’s World
Over the past 14 years, people within the MCU have been introduced to one new wild entity after another – everything from the God of Thunder to the Guardians of the Galaxy. These quotes don’t suggest that Thor is involved in Kamala’s Clandestine backstory or Mutant history, rather Ali suggests that Thor’s role was simply to be another mystery for Earth.
The simplest way to see this is Kamala’s past lined up alongside the Clandestines in the same manner it would have lined with Thor, if the God Of Thunder was the one who crashed into the Himalayas.
This was created to provide Kamala with more connections to her family’s history. She learned all about her superpowers and her heritage through Islam and Clandestines. This only helped her to develop more character before she was able to assume the role of superhero.
All six episodes of Ms. Marvel can be viewed on Disney+.
