Sony’s PlayStation store briefly lists a page for its upcoming PS5 game Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which includes a logo inspired by Venom.
A page for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 briefly went up on Sony’s PlayStation Store, showing off a giant logo clearly inspired by Venom.
Earlier this morning, the PlayStation Store unveiled a full page for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and allowed users to wishlist the game. Yet, the page quickly went down without comment from Sony, although Insomniac Games’ community director encouraged fans to wishlist the game on the page. But fans were able to snapshot the page, which showed off a massive Spider-Man insignia over a black background. Indeed, while that image flashed onto the screen in last year’s reveal trailer alongside a jump-scare from Venom, Sony made the symbiote’s distorted black Spider symbol the official logo for the game.
When Does Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Take Place?
This next installment in Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man series takes place after both the original Marvel’s Spider-Man from 2018 and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales from 2020. A teaser trailer for the new game came out in September of last year, but there have been few updates on the game since then, besides an assurance from Insomniac that a 2023 release date is still the plan. The official PlayStation store page didn’t offer new information, but the page being pulled so quickly makes it clear that Sony isn’t ready to make any announcements about the game just yet.
Besides Venom, the sequel’s first trailer showed off several details about what to expect in the new game. One of the first shots includes Spider-Man fighting an enemy with four robotic spider-legs on his back, just like the Superior Spider-Man comics, where Otto Octavius switched bodies with Peter Parker. Plus, Miles Morales shows up soon afterwards, all while a threatening voice growls about a fruitless search for a strong opponent. Fans immediately connected that voice’s accent and motivation to Kraven the Hunter, but the trailer’s biggest surprise comes when Venom shows his face and sharp teeth at the very end (voiced by horror icon Tony Todd).
The original Spider-Man game and its DLC featured a wide variety of characters such as Doctor Octopus and the lesser-known Spidey villain Mister Negative as major villains. The game also found ways to work in Kingpin, Silver Sable, Vulture, Electro, Rhino and Norman Osborn into its complex story. Additionally, a post-credits scene that plays after completing the game connects a black, web-like substance to Oscorp. However, Norman Osborn’s voice actor has stated that he is not returning for the sequel.
Both Marvel’s Spider-Man and Miles Morales are currently available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to be released sometime in 2023 for the PlayStation 5.
