Of all the character challenges in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Nico Minoru’s is among the most difficult. Here’s how to beat it on the first try.
The much anticipated Marvel’s Midnight Suns brought Marvel fans the card-based battle game of which they’d always dreamed. Despite some mixed reviews, the game offers a lot in terms of the range of characters, attacks, and dynamics to explore, giving players a highly personalized experience full of fun challenges and puzzles, some more difficult than others. One character that players have found especially difficult yet rewarding is Nico Minoru.
For each character in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, players can complete a challenge that will earn them a new set of armor and a special ability. This challenge can be difficult for any of the characters, but especially for Nico. Because of her versatility and seemingly random attacks, players have found themselves struggling to get through her challenge with ease. Here’s how to solve Nico’s Black Shadows challenge and reap its rewards.
What the Black Shadows Challenge Requires
Players need to complete a few steps before they can attempt the Black Shadows challenge. First, players should complete the “Forged in Hellfire” research project, which becomes an option after bringing Ghost Rider on four missions. Completion of the research project unlocks the Armory and the Challenge Missions.
Additionally, players need to max out their friendship level with Nico. This can be done by completing activities and missions with them. The activities are most fruitful when catered toward the personality of the character in question. For example, Peter Parker enjoys watching movies and Captain America loves working out and having deep conversations with his friends.
During the challenge, Nico is pitted against four Whispers. To win, players must draw cards to use against them until they are defeated, and the purple crystal can be destroyed with the Crack the Sky card. However, Nico is notorious for being unpredictable in her moveset, so players going into the challenge must strategize.
How to Complete the Black Shadows Challenge
When the challenge begins, players should immediately use their first redraw on the Blood Magic card to get another Double Up card and their second to swap the Empower card for a more powerful Blood Magic card. Next, players should use the Blood Magic and the two Double Ups. Doing this will greatly buff Nico for the battle ahead, doubling the amount of attack and heroic cards in the deck and increasing her overall damage output.
Players should then use Witchstorm on the opponents on both ends of the line of four. When one is attacked, the one directly beside it also takes damage, so using Witchstorm on the ends ensures that all four enemies take significant damage in one turn. Finally, players need to cast their Witchfire cards, which will take out the rest of their opponents’ health.
After all four opponents have with dealt with, a purple crystal will appear and players will be given the Crack the Sky card. Using the Crack the Sky card will destroy the crystal. If all goes smoothly, this will bring an end to Nico’s Black Shadows challenge.
What the Player Gets for Completing the Black Shadows Challenge
Completing the Black Shadows challenge unlocks Nico’s black and gold Midnight Sun suit. These suits must be unlocked character-by-character, and they can only be obtained through completing their personal challenges. However, if players complete all the story missions before the character challenges, the Midnight Sun suits are all unlocked.
Victory in the Black Shadows challenge also adds the Crack the Sky card to Nico’s collection. This card consumes all Heroism to damage random enemies once for each Heroism, For each Knockout, Nico gains an additional Heroism.
