Marvel’s Avengers adds a new, ‘Cel Shaded’ skin for Captain America that looks like it was ripped straight from the pages of a comic book.

Marvel's Avengers Captain America Cell Shaded Suit

Marvel’s Avengers has added a new skin for Captain America that looks like it was ripped straight from the panels of a Marvel comic book.

As announced by the official Marvel’s Avengers Twitter account, Captain America’s ‘Cel Shaded Outfit’ is now available in the in-game Marketplace. The post also includes a video showing the skin in action, with the comic book-esque Star-Spangled Man certainly standing out against the game’s more realistic-looking setting.

In fact, Cap’s new Marvel’s Avengers skin is sure to evoke memories of a similar outfit players can have Peter Parker wear in the Insomniac Games-developed title Marvel’s Spider-Man. That game features the Spidey’s ‘Vintage Comic Book Suit,’ which similarly uses cel-shading to create a comic book-like effect, making the friendly neighborhood superhero stand out against the realistic New York City. In Marvel’s Spider-Man, players can unlock the ‘Vintage Comic Book Suit’ upon reaching Level 41 and having the necessary Tokens.

This trend continued in Insomniac’s spinoff title, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. While Miles’ solo game did not feature a comic book-styled suit, per se, it did feature the ‘Animated Suit,’ based on the character’s appearance in the animated series Ultimate Spider-Man. Like Peter’s ‘Vintage’ suit from the first Spider-Man game and Captain America’s new suit from Avengers, Miles’ ‘Animated Suit’ used cel-shading to achieve the desired effect. Miles Morales players can unlock the suit upon reaching Level 7 and, again, having the necessary tokens.

Get Ready for Action!

As far as Marvel’s Avengers is concerned, one of Cap’s greatest allies and adversaries recently joined the fray. Nov. 29 marked the addition of Bucky Barnes/the Winter Soldier as a playable hero. Like every other playable hero in the game, Bucky comes with his own collection of alternate skins, including one that acts as a throwback to his original outfit as Captain America’s young ward during World War II — long before he was presumed dead became the brainwashed, metal-armed Winter Soldier.

Developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix, Marvel’s Avengers is currently available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Microsoft Windows.
