Marvel teases a new story for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is coming in 2023 and will follow the events which occurred in Timeless (2022) #1.
The following contains spoilers for Timeless (2022) #1, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
Marvel teased a new Avengers story is kicking off in 2023 following the events of Timeless (2022) #1.
Timeless (2022) #1 comes from writer Jed MacKay, artists Greg Land, Jay Leisten, Patch Zircher and Salvador Larroca, color artist Frank D’Armata and letterer VC’s Ariana Maher. The issue sees Kang the Conqueror face his new arch-rival, a mysterious figure known as Myrddin, and their Twilight Court while searching for the “missing moment” — a brief second somewhere in Marvel history that’s currently inaccessible but said to be the “starting point of the road to the greatest prize in all of history.” Kang explains in Timeless that this moment is inaccessible via time travel and can only be accessed by forging a key. “Metaphorically, of course,” he explains. “Certain conditions must be met. Tribulations must be overcome. The missing moment is the first step to the grail. The ultimate prize for the ultimate adventurer.”
At the end of Timeless, Kang is defeated and mortally wounded by Myrddin, who is also searching for the Missing Moment. Kang manages to escape into Null-Time before Myrddin can finish the job; however, he admits his new foe “may” have killed him. “But I have yet one more trick,” Kang narrates. “If I’m to thwart Myrddin — even from beyond the grave — then I will require heroes of my own.”
Following the release of Timeless, Marvel teased the search for the missing moment will continue in 2023. “Today’s TIMELESS #1 teased what’s next for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes!” the publisher said. “Stay tuned in the coming months to learn more!” Marvel also put out a poster featuring a different logo than the one in Jason Aaron’s Avengers series. Whether Timeless (2022) is leading specifically into a new series or event has not been announced at this time.
Marvel’s Current Avengers Era Is Coming to an End
Aaron, who began writing Avengers approximately five years ago, is now bringing Earth’s Mightiest Heroes together for one final battle in the “Avengers Assemble” event. Avengers Assemble Alpha #1 (by Aaron and Bryan Hitch) saw the heroes team with their prehistoric counterparts to battle Doom Supreme and his army of villainous variants, while Mephisto is also launching an attack on Avenger Prime. The event will also bring heroes from Aaron’s Avengers Forever series into the action before it concludes on April 19, 2023, with Avengers Assemble Omega #1.
The synopsis for Avengers Assemble Omega #1 reads, “In his nearly five-year run, Aaron assembled one of the most powerful Avengers lineups ever and took them on grand-scale adventures throughout Earth, space, and time, all while unearthing bold new discoveries behind the very fabric of the Marvel Universe and taking some of Marvel’s most popular heroes on character-redefining journeys. Now, he’ll tie everything together in an operatic story that will leave a tremendous imprint on the Avengers mythos!”
