Marvel’s Fantastic Four is getting a new relaunch by an unknown creative team.
During the “Marvel Comics: Next Big Thing” panel at San Diego Comic-Con on July 23, Marvel teased the start of a new era for the Fantastic Four. The publisher released an image of a compass with the Fantastic Four’s logo in the center, the word “writer” at the top and “artist” at the bottom, while “November 2022” sits below.
Speaking at SDCC, Marvel Comics editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski stated that David Pepose would be the Fantastic Four series editor for the next two issues. The title will relaunch later in the year. Marvel has yet to announce the creators of the series but promises more information at a later time.
Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the Fantastic Four — oftentimes referred to as Marvel’s First Family — first appeared in 1961’s The Fantastic Four #1. Mister Fantastic/Reed Richards is the team’s leader. The Invisible Woman/Sue Storm and the Thing/Ben Grimm are the other members. However, others like She-Hulk have also served as substitutes in the past. They were created by a cosmic radiation storm that struck outer space. The heroes have a large rogues gallery with villains including Galactus and Namor.
Marvel wrapped a lengthy “Reckoning War” storyline featuring the Fantastic Four. It was written and illustrated by Marco Checchetto. This event brought the team into contact with the Reckoning alien race, who are trying to create an intergalactic conflict. Uatu created a new Marvel Universe corner called “the Borderlands”, which Galactus, a newly reborn Galactus, and Silver Surfer explored in their quest for “knowledge.” “
Following the events of the Reckoning War, Fantastic Four #46 will introduce Reed Richards’ sister. Releasing on Aug. 24, the synopsis for the issue reads, “‘Family First’! It is not a hoax. This is not a hoax. It is true. The Watchers have helped to find the missing daughter of Nathaniel Richards. The time has come to meet Reed Richards’ mysterious younger sister. Is it the right time to make her part of our family? This day is full of incredible adventures in both her world and the Fantastic Four’s. Namor King of Atlantis is guest-starring. “
Marvel’s new Fantastic Four run begins in November 2022.
