During San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel surprised comics fans by releasing the explosive trailer for Secret Invasion.
Marvel surprised fans today at San Diego Comic-Con with the first trailer for its upcoming series, Secret Invasion.
Marvel reportedly showcased the trailer to the thrill of fans, with cast member Colbie Smolders appearing on stage to tease the project. You guys, this is a dark show. It’s an intriguing thriller that we’ll be digging deeper into each character. She said that you never really know who someone is, Skrull-like or not. It’s scheduled to stream in Spring 2023. Another major reveal during the event is that Bridgerton‘s Rege-Jean Page has joined the cast, though his character remains unconfirmed and did not appear in the trailer.
Although the trailer has not been released yet to the public, CBR’s Mira Jacobs reported details from the footage. The trailer has a darker, more serious tone than other MCU movies. In the trailer, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is seen meeting Maria Hill, Smulders’ Maria Hill, at a bar. Hill comments that Fury has been avoiding Earth, as previously seen in the end-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home. Fury is next seen with Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos who reminds him to be cautious. He appears to have a mob at his side.
Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes makes a brief appearance as Fury as him about his security detail. Fans also got their first glimpse at Oliva Coleman, a mysterious character who seems to have authority over Fury. He is warned by her, “You are not fit for this Fury.” Martin Freeman’s Everett Ross also appeared briefly in one shot, seen for the first time since his appearance in 2018’s Black Panther. The actor only recently confirmed his involvement in Secret Invasion after Jackson appeared to spill the beans in an interview.
Reportedly, Secret Invasion takes place during the Blip, the five years between Thanos’ Snap in Avengers: Infinity War and the events of Avengers: Endgame. This series is about a Skrull group that invades Earth to take over the roles of politicians and heroes. The fact Fury was Blipped complicates this rumor. Some speculate that the series could jump between the five-year period and the current, when Fury leads a team to find the Skrulls. The project has largely completed filming, though its reported Secret Invasion is currently undergoing reshoots because of its parallels with the invasion in Ukraine.
Secret Invasion is set to stream on Disney+ in Spring 2023.
