Marvel Snap releases the patch notes containing nerfs to threats like Leader and Galactus while buffing the lesser-used Guardians of the Galaxy.
Marvel Snap released the latest patch notes, bringing changes to Leader, Galactus, a few Guardians of the Galaxy members and some rarely utilized cards.
The patch notes are live on the Marvel Snap official website, and the comprehensive list breaks down changes made to audio and visual effects, card nerfs and buffs, and bug fixes. Among the balance changes, nine cards receive some power adjustments for the remainder of the season. The cards receiving nerfs are Aero, Galactus, Leader and Nova, while Drax, Groot, Hazmat, Black Cat and Nakia gained buffs.
On the nerfed side, each card lost one total power. The developer’s justification for Aero and Nova’s reduced power is that the cards’ individual effects are potent tools that warrant a slight baseline stat reduction. For Leader specifically, the power change is only the first to come, as noted by the developer comment included in the patch notes. It reads, “We are taking a bit of power away from him for now and exploring further changes to the card in the future.” Ahead of the official nerf, Marvel Snap‘s chief development officer, Ben Brode, clarified on Twitter that the Leader’s nerfs means “we are determining exactly which change to make,” and not that the Snap team is deliberating on whether or not they will change the card again. Galactus is the other 6-Cost card losing some strength, but unlike Leader, the developer note attached did not confirm any plans for future changes.
Hazmat, Black Cat and Nakia are receiving one additional power to encourage players to add them to decks. This buff does not come without a cost for the Guardians of the Galaxy members. Groot and Drax both get one extra power to the base stats, but each also loses a power they could gain from successfully activating their On-Reveal effects. Their total possible power remains the same, but it causes fewer issues for players if they aren’t triggered. The Marvel Snap update is intended to make these high-risk, high-reward cards less risky overall.
This is the first new patch to hit 2023 and its new season, The Savage Land. The season introduces Zabu to the mix as Ka-Zar’s trusted ally. Possessing an energy cost of three and power of two, it has an Ongoing ability that reduces the cost of 4-Cost cards by two. Players can also look forward to adding Sauran, Shanna the She-Devil, Dazzler and Shadow King to their decks, as these cards will become available throughout January.
Marvel Snap can be downloaded free with optional microtransactions on iOS, Android and Microsoft Windows.
