A Marvel Snap player shares a counter deck that’s centered around Sera and adds a detailed guide on how to use it to climb to Infinite.
A Redditor shared their favorite control deck to play in Marvel Snap.
User u/kookoobah posted a photo of their deck titled ‘Control Sera’ to the online card game’s subreddit, as well as a detailed guide on how to make the most of the cards. What makes the deck somewhat exceptional is that the majority of the cards are available in Pool 1 and Pool 2 with only Mysterio and Sera being Pool 3 cards. Despite the low tier of cards, u/kookoobah attested that the deck has brought them to the top rank of Infinite in three seasons and remains their favorite one to play. The deck requires Sera’s Ongoing ability to reduce the cost of cards played after for one energy less. This allows for big turn six counterplays that can outright ruin the opponent’s board and add a surprising amount of power to the player’s.
Aside from Sera’s five energy cost, the deck is filled with relatively low-cost cards. Enchantress and Shang-Chi are the second highest at an energy cost of four. This means that players will get to play at least two cards after Sera is played on turn five thanks to its effect of reducing the energy cost by one. The biggest counter cards in its arsenal are Shang-Chi, Enchantress and Killmonger, which can destroy opposing cards or eliminate Ongoing effects. However, the original poster noted that playing combinations like Nova and Killmonger on turn six or Angela followed by Mysterio and other low-cost cards can create big power swings if no counterplays are needed for that particular game.
The current season — The Power Cosmic — and the Winterverse event are both coming to an end on Jan. 2. The new season introduced Silver Surfer and jolly holiday-themed variants of Abomination, Ebony Maw, Patriot, Rockslide and Rogue. Darkhawk and Sentry also made it into the game as part of the yuletide event. The two cards each require four energy to play, but that’s where the similarities end. Darkhawk’s Ongoing ability adds an additional two power for every card in the opponent’s deck on top of its base power of one. Sentry possesses eight power, but the On Reveal effect adds a card called Void to the right-most location with a power of negative eight.
