Marvel Snap has been out for more than a month, and it has become incredibly popular due to its imaginative use of the IP and its unique take on the collectible card game genre. Players continue to find innovative ways to shape the CCG’s meta with its fun cast of heroes and villains, their abilities, and the in-game locations. It is no secret that one of the most potent abilities in the game is the Ongoing ability.
Iron Man and Onslaught are two of the most popular cards in the game, as their powers can significantly boost point accumulation. They combo well with other Ongoing cards like Spectrum, Patriot, and Devil Dinosaur. However, players sometimes need to pay more attention to the locations on the board and how they can have game-winning effects themselves. One location, in particular, only requires Iron Man and Onslaught to accumulate more than 1000 points in that lane.
Iron Man and Onslaught Make a Powerful Duo
Iron Man and Onslaught do not share the same ability. Iron Man’s ability doubles the power of his location, so if he is placed at a location with 10 power, it will become 20 power. Onslaught’s ability doubles the Ongoing effects of other cards. So if the 6-power Onslaught were placed in the same location as Iron Man, the total power would be 24 since Iron Man doubles the 6-power, and Onslaught doubles it again. This two-card combo alone is often enough to win locations and games.
Onslaught’s Citadel Makes the Iron Man/Onslaught Combo Even More Potent
Now there is a way for players to cheat more than a thousand points out of a single location. The trick is to keep an eye out for Onslaught’s Citadel. Onslaught’s Citadel is a location with the same effect as Onslaught, doubling the Ongoing abilities of cards at this location. Placing Iron Man and Onslaught here will increase the total power from 24 to a whopping 1536 points.
The math is a bit complicated, but to put it simply, the total power of the location is multiplied by 2 to the power of 8. This results in 256 points, which are then multiplied by Onslaught’s 6-power, thus equaling 1536. Such a combo is one of the most powerful moves in the game. It only takes two cards to achieve, and cards like Omega Red or Mystique can elevate this to even greater heights. However, the combo does have counters that can stop players from utilizing it.
Counters to the Onslaught’s Citadel Combo
First off, Marvel Snap has over 100 locations and the locations are random, so there is no guarantee when or if the player will see Onslaught’s Citadel. Secondly, players should keep an eye out for cards like Scarlet Witch, Storm, or Magik, who can change their locations when played. Lastly, Enchantress is an Ongoing deck’s worst nightmare, and she is heavily played as her ability negates any Ongoing effects.
Marvel Snap is home to many opportunities to win matches. There is no one-way ticket to infinite rank, and players believe this makes Marvel Snap stand out from the rest of its competitors. To succeed, gamers must remember their win conditions, stay vigilant with regard to each game’s locations, and always know when to snap.
