This Spider-Man appearance in an animated project by Marvel Studios isn’t the first. In the fifth episode of What if …?, Peter (or a Variant) appeared as Peter. is a survivor from a zombie epidemic. Freshman year , will, however, be more sunny than this episode.
In What If…? , but Parker wasn’t voiced by Tom Holland. Instead, actor and singer Hudson Thames assumed the role. It seems that there will be another glaring oversight in the animated Spidey series.
Tom Holland Reports Not in Freshman Year
According to The Illuminerdi’s report, Tom Holland won’t be performing any vocal acting in the upcoming Spider-Man series: Freshman Disney+. At this point, it’s not clear who will play the part of Peter Parker/Spider-Man on the series.
Why is Holland not returning?
There are many reasons why Tom Holland won’t be reprising the Spider-Man role in Freshman year ..
The actor might not have wanted to be the lead character in the series. He could have been too busy or there wasn’t enough money to cast such an important star. It is possible that Holland was not offered enough money by Marvel Studios to be on the show. However, this seems unlikely given Holland’s passion for the role.
Maybe this is also a Sony Pictures rights issue? It is the studio that owns film rights to Spider-Man. While Marvel has the capability to create animated shows featuring Spider-Man, Freshman year could still be a grey area as it is the MCU’s version.
In some cases, Marvel may just want a better voice actor for the part. Experts always point out that voice acting can be very different from performing on stage or screen. An actor might be able to perform well in live action, but it may not translate into voicing the role in animated films.
What does it mean for Tom Holland’s franchise stars? Marisa Tomei and Jacob Batalon will return to the roles of May, Ned, and MJ. This remains to be seen, but Marvel Studios does have an animation-focused panel coming up at SDCC on Friday, July 22. There may be additional details about the series.
It’s currently unknown when Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man Junior Year will reach Disney+. However, it’s best to assume that this will prepare for a 2023 publication.
