Similar to the time Steve Rogers became a werewolf, Falcon/Joaquín Torres undergoes a radical transformation in Captain America: Symbol of Truth #7.
The following article contains spoilers from Captain America: Symbol of Truth #7, on sale now from Marvel.
Similar to Steve Roger’s transformation into a werewolf, Falcon/Joaquín Torres is turned into a literal, life-size bird in Captain America: Symbol of Truth #7.
Captain America: Symbol of Truth #7 comes from writer Tochi Onyebuchi, artist Ig Guara, color artist Jesus Aburtov and letterer VC’s Joe Caramagna. In Captain America: Symbol of Truth #6, Joaquín was injected with a syringe containing a mysterious liquid after he was ambushed during an attack led by White Wolf. The hero was brought to a hospital in critical condition, with Captain America/Sam Wilson vowing to track down the people responsible.
At the end of Captain America: Symbol of Truth #7, Joaquín begins to flatline when, suddenly, he abruptly awakens. Falcon is hardly himself, however; rather, he’s become a monstrous, bird-like creature complete with wings, talons, glowing red eyes and fangs. “Wh…What is happening to me?” Falcon cries out. “I’m so…Hungry!!!”
Captain America Has Had a Similar Werewolf Transformation
Steve Rogers underwent a similar transformation in the late 1960s when the Star-Spangled Avenger turned into a vicious werewolf dubbed “Capwolf.” Taking place in Captain America #402-408 by Mark Gruenwald and Rik Levins, the story sees Steve investigating a string of killings which eventually results in him being injected with a wolf serum created by Dr. Nightshade/Tilda Johnson with DNA from Jack Russell/The Werewolf by Night. While the storyline ended with the Sentinel of Liberty turning back into his normal self, Capwolf made a recent reappearance in Marvel’s Avengers Forever series when he was seen standing alongside a small army of Steve Rogers variants.
Solicitation information for upcoming issues of Captain America: Symbol of Truth tease a potential battle between Sam and Falcon’s horrifying new form. The synopsis for Captain America: Symbol of Truth #10, which releases Feb. 8, 2023, reads, “CAP VS. FALCON! When Falcon arrives in Mohannda, delirious and rampaging from the effects of White Wolf’s chemical attack, it’s up to Captain America to save his friend – or to stop Falcon from hurting anyone else. In this heartbreaking showdown between partners, Sam Wilson must make a choice about who he wants to be – and what he is willing to sacrifice for the mantle of Captain America.”
Captain America: Symbol of Truth #7 features cover art by R.B. Silva and Aburtov and variant cover art by Ken Lashley and Juan Fernandez. The issue is on sale now from Marvel.
