Warning: This article contains spoilers for the Ms. Marvel finale.
In the Marvel Universe, Namor the Submariner has a very distinctive look, and Marvel has revealed that his trademark pointy ears aren’t just for show.
In an unlikely dystopian future, where Maestro has taken over as dictator of the Atlantian City from the Hulk, some super-beings are attempting to stop him. Namor joined Dr. Doom, the Human Torch and Dr. Doom after Maestro reached the ocean floor to destroy an Atlantian city. Namor lost many family members and citizens during this attack, which was particularly distressing for him.
In the new Maestro: World War M #5 by Peter David and Sebastian Cabrol, Maestro has teamed up with his former villain Abomination to stop the trio of heroes aligned against them. Abomination, who was woken by Doom received a teleporter that could be used to return to Doom headquarters. Although the receiver was lost, Namor could hear the faint sound from the device when he activated it. The sound was so faint, the Human Torch was shocked that he could hear it. Namor responded that his ears are able to pick up a lot more than normal people’s hearing.
Namor has been a fascinating character in Marvel Universe. He’s worn many hats throughout the years. He’s been in the Marvel Universe for a quite a long time, having been a part of the WWII team heroes known as the Invaders while also being a villain of the Fantastic Four ever since Namor wanted to marry Susan Storm. Although his abilities to fly and strengthen are well-documented, little attention has been paid to the small physiological capabilities he may have, such as super-hearing.

Namor is primarily known as the King of Atlantis, but he’s not 100% Atlantian. His hybrid of human and Atlantean allows him to breath underwater as well as on the surface. He is also a mutant. The result of this strange genetic mix has made him a unique person, whose distinctive pointy ears have become a hallmark. While some may assume that his ears are part of Atlantean biology, it may surprise you to discover that they actually serve a purpose. While it has been a long time since Namor’s first appearance, it’s still interesting that secrets about his powers and abilities are still being uncovered with this new issue.
