Studio developer Kabam announces Baron Zemo and Absorbing Man will be the next additions to Marvel Contest of Champions’ impressive roster.
Studio developer Kabam revealed the Year 8 Narrative Roadmap for Marvel Contest of Champions, which included details regarding the first new characters for 2023, Baron Zemo and the Absorbing Man.
The two villains will be the next champions to join Marvel Contest of Champions‘ massive character roster. The Absorbing Man will debut on Jan. 19, alongside a new stage, the Haassenstadt arena. The Absorbing Man is a “Mystic” Champion, who can magically augment his body and signature ball and chain by absorbing the elements in his surroundings. “Carl “Crusher” Creel was an American professional Heavyweight boxer turned enforcer,” a short biography describes. “While locked up in prison, he was mutated using Asgardian magic by the trickster god Loki using a special potion. Creel then obtained the ability to absorb the properties of anything he touches and used his newfound power to break free from prison and soon became a villain for hire. He was later recruited into the Masters of Evil by Baron Zemo.”
Baron Zemo will make his own appearance on Jan. 26 as Marvel Contest of Champions‘ latest “Skill” Champion, who incorporates several unique weapons, such as a longsword, pistol and his iconic Adhesive X. His biography reads, “Baron Helmut Zeo, 13th in the esteemed Zemo lineage, has walked the path of evil ever since his father, Heinrich, died fighting his nemesis, Captain America. Consumed by a need for revenge and control, Baron Zemo reformed his father’s Masters of Evil in an attempt to take down the Avengers. He later founded the Thunderbolts, villains masquerading as heroes, in another ploy for world domination. Ingenious, resourceful, and above all, patient, Zemo knows his ultimate victory is only a matter of time.”
The roadmap for Marvel’s Contest of Champions also included a slew of fixes, new gameplay features and the return of the annual Summoner’s Choice contest, wherein fans may vote to pick which hero or villain will join the title’s roster. Veteran players will also have the chance to test their skills in the Grandmaster’s Gauntlet, which will feature the addition of new time-limited rewards when it returns on Jan. 11.
Marvel Contest of Champions will additionally celebrate its ninth year online with the addition of a new monthly side quest, Mojo’s Choice. Players will be faced with 4 weekly quests, with one released every week during the event period. Mojo’s Choice will offer five levels of difficulty and will offer increasing rewards depending on the player’s choice. There are also additional solo objectives, which reward rare upgrade materials upon completion.
Marvel Contest of Champions is available for iOS and Android devices.
