Marvel will bring Peter Parker’s nearest clone home, and Chasm had been planning big for the Wall-Crawler since his first appearance.
Amazing Spider-Man is bringing back Peter Parker’s most twisted clone as Chasm makes his terrifying return to the spotlight.
After a long hiatus, Ben Reilly is finally coming back to Marvel Comics in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man #14 by longtime scribe Zeb Wells and artists Michael Dowling and Kyle Hotz. Marvel assures that Chasm has not been seen in a while, despite him being transformed into the terrifying Chasm. Marvel fans can expect him to terrorize the Wall-Crawler soon, along with a number of villains including the Goblin King.

When Ben Reilly was first introduced in the pages of 1975’s Amazing Spider-Man #149 by writer Gerry Conway and artist Ross Andru, it was as an otherwise generic clone of the hero created by the Jackal. Even though the clone’s name was assumed to have died shortly after his appearance, Ben returned almost twenty years later. Peter and Ben were confronted with existential and moral questions regarding their roles in the universe and their legality as heroes and humans. Unfortunately for Ben, he was not able to come to terms with his emotions as Peter, which led him to constantly question himself.

When the interdimensional Beyond Corporation brought Ben Reilly on as their own corporate sponsored Spider-Man, Ben’s relationships were further put to the test by his benefactors’ less than benevolent tactics in dealing with the competition. Beyond had been secretly exercising their will on Ben and slowly removing his core memories, which made him the Spider-Man he is today. Ben decided to surrender his life in his final confrontation with Peter rather than living without those parts. Ben chose to die under Beyond’s rubble, but he was the villainous Chasm and has had his eyes set on Spider-Man since.
Amazing Spider-Man #14 is written by Zeb Wells, with art by Michael Dowling and Kyle Hotz, and main cover art by John Romita Jr. Amazing Spider-Man #14 goes on sale Nov. 2022.
