After selecting Firestar as last year’s champion, X-Men and Marvel readers will get to vote for who they want to see join the team in 2023.
Marvel will be hosting another X-Men fan vote in 2023.
Marvel Entertainment posted an announcement on Twitter declaring another X-Men fan vote will return in 2023. “The choice is yours,” the post’s caption reads. “The #XMenVote returns in 2023.” Further details have not yet been provided and will come at a later date.
In 2021, Marvel opened the first fan-driven campaign which allowed readers to vote for one of ten candidates they wanted to see join a new team of X-Men. “Marvel’s fan vote will be 100% responsible for the determination of the final member of this inaugural team, so choose wisely as your choice will have an everlasting effect on the future of the X-Men and the world at large,” the site’s information page read. Polaris won the vote and then joined the team during the 2021 Hellfire Gala. The publisher held a second fan vote in 2022, at which point readers selected Firestar as the winner.
What’s Coming for the X-Men in 2023?
The X-Men are about to enter into a dark timeline with a new event, “Sins of Sinister.” In recent issues of Immortal X-Men, Mister Sinister killed a number of powerful mutants — including Hope Summers, meaning Krakoa’s resurrection process has become a whole lot more complicated — following the events of the ongoing X-Men series written by Gerry Duggan and the 2022 Judgment Day event. When he’s thrown into Krakoa’s pit for his crimes, Mister Sinister then enters a world in which he gets anything and everything he’s ever desired.
Releasing Jan. 25, 2023, from writer Kieron Gillen, artist Lucas Werneck and more, the synopsis for Sins of Sinister #1 reads, “POWERS OF ESSEX! It’s the end of the world as we know it, and at least Sinister feels fine. For now. Can that last? Especially when we discover that he really is his own worst enemy… The universe-melting X-event begins here, in a horror timeline that makes Age of Apocalypse look like the X-Men Swimsuit Special. Join Kieron Gillen (IMMORTAL X-MEN, AXE: JUDGMENT DAY) as he kicks off the X-Men crossover Sinister has been planning since the beginning…and is going to have to see through to the bitter end.”
Following “Sins of Sinister,” the X-Men will then launch into a brand-new “Fall of X” event later on in 2023. While details are being kept under wraps, Marvel previously teased “Fall of X” could bring about the end of mutantkind’s Krakoan age. The publisher previously teased, “The X-Men hoped Krakoa would last forever. Time to find out if they were right.”
