Thor: Love and Thunder has been flooded with mixed reviews – demonstrated by its below-average B+ CinemaScore and 68% on Rotten Tomatoes. There are many reasons why fans don’t enjoy the movie. Some wanted more MCU connections. Others didn’t like how certain characters were handled. Many also found the humor excessive.
After reimagining Thor’s character in a lighter way with Ragnarok , director Taika waititi returned to Love and Thunder and brought much of the same energy. Fans haven’t been as infatuated with Waititi’s direction this time, since they were expecting a darker Thor after his depression in Avengers .
Now that fans are awaiting Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder’s next appearance, Waititi is responding to one set of critics.
Thor Director Responds to Hate

Thor – Love and Thunder director Taika waititi responded to one critic’s harsh criticisms of the film and the way it portrayed Thor.
Twitter user @cubichy criticized the director for “[making] Thor into a moron” and wasting Gorr the God Butcher, Jane Foster, and Valkyrie, going as far as calling the film “dogst:”
” I am sorry, ThorLoveAndThunder was dogshit and @TaikaWaititi turned Thor into a moron and a bafoon and wasted Jane and Valkyrie. You can bet that I will not accept trash, and this movie will go down like a rock. #MarvelStudios #firetaika”
In response to another user who defended Love and Thunder, @cubichy reinforced his point that Thor “wouldn’t joke,” while noting some differences to the original comic arc:
“Have you ever read Thor, he is over 1000 years old god, he wouldn’t joke. Both comic book Thor as well as Norse Thor are both irritable. Gorr butchered 1000s of gods, he was a badass, we never see that, because Thor is joking. Jane does not die when Thor cuts Gorr’s head. Dogs. “
@HwjwhJeh previously supported the movie then pointed out a particularly funny moment in Thor’s comical history when he engaged in a dance off with Luke Cage.
“Dawg, he was in a dance competition with Luke Cage. You can’t be Thor if you act like that. “

Waititi retweeted the hilarious comic panel of Thor and Cage dancing, simply saying “Lol YES. “
Does Thor: Love and Thunder Deserve the Hate?
Regarding Ragnarok, fans adored Waititi’s style of humor and how he balanced them with the darker moments. Love and Thunder lean more towards that humor and have a tendency of getting into the more serious moments it shouldn’t.
If a funny interpretation of Thor is not what you are looking for, Love and Thunder isn’t for you. It’s not clear if Thor’s ability to crack jokes is a flaw in the movie. The God of Thunder has seen his share of humorous moments throughout comic history. As we saw with the Luke Cage/Thor crossover, Asgardian heroes are known for being a little silly on the comic page from time to time, which Waititi believes justifies the fact that his Thor is not as serious as the other versions.
This is not to suggest that humor cannot be criticised, but it does mean that Thor does not always need to be serious, like most heroes. Perhaps the reaction to Love and Thunder will push Marvel Studios into a darker and more Norse-oriented direction for Thor’s next adventure without Waititi.
The humor wasn’t the only complaint the MCU movie has received. Others have shared concerns with CGI, storyline and use of Jane, Valkyrie and Zeus. There was also consensus about Christian Bale’s Gorr being underutilized.
For those looking for a new Asgardian story and a chance to express their opinion, Thor : Love and Thunder is now playing in theatres around the world.
