Kang the Conqueror looks into Marvel’s future Timeless (2022) #1 and sees a Ghost Rider/Wolverine character, a surprise Avengers reunion and more.
The following contains spoilers for Timeless (2022) #1, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
Marvel’s Timeless (2022) #1 one-shot predicts the return of the Pet Avengers, a Ghost Rider/Wolverine hybrid character and more are coming in 2023.
Timeless (2022) #1 comes from writer Jed MacKay, artists Greg Land, Jay Leisten, Patch Zircher and Salvador Larroca, color artist Frank D’Armata and letterer VC’s Ariana Maher. In the one-shot, Kang the Conqueror finds himself jumping through time after he meets his new arch-rival, Myrddin, and their Twilight Court. “Time flashes before my eyes,” Kang narrates. “The shape of things to come.”
While making his way through time, Kang initially sees visions of Bucky Barnes shaking hands with an imprisoned White Wolf, Tony Stark/Iron Man reaching for a bottle of alcohol, Beast/Hank McCoy standing in front of an army of clones and the X-Men’s Treehouse in New York City burning to the ground. Later on in the issue, Kang jumps through time again and sees a handful of new predictions of things to come. These visions include Namor and Black Panther working together, the return of the Pet Avengers (which includes Lockjaw, Throg, Lockheed, Lucky, Hairball and Redwing), a Wolverine/Ghost Rider hybrid character and Captain Marvel becoming one of the Brood. Kang also sees brief glimpses of Miles Morales, New York City Mayor Luke Cage, Red Goblin, Bishop and more.
Some of Kang’s Visions Have Already Begun to Play Out
While the Pet Avengers’ reunion may come as a surprise, Wolverine has already had a presence in Ghost Rider’s ongoing series. The two crossed paths in 2022’s Ghost Rider #5 (by Benjamin Percy and Cory Smith) shortly after Johnny Blaze was infected with a demon that was slowly poisoning him. To remove the entity, Ghost Rider lent his Hellfire to Wolverine’s claws, which then effectively gets the job done.
Meanwhile, Beast has become Krakoa’s secret villain as he previously killed Wolverine and then started using a semi-resurrected version of him as his own pet. Solicitation information and cover art for March 2023’s Wolverine #31 (by Percy and Juan José Ryp) reveals Hank will soon clone himself in order to usher in a “new Krakoan era.” A number of other X-Men characters have also teamed up with Captain Marvel to fight the Brood, with Rogue having already been infected by one of the aliens in Captain Marvel #43 (by Kelly Thompson and Sergio Dávila). Solicitation information for upcoming issues of John Ridley’s Black Panther series further indicates Namor will play a role in a storyline which sees T’Challa lead his own team of heroes against the Avengers.
Timeless (2022) #1 features cover art by Kael Ngu and variant cover art by Alex Maleev, Carmen Carnero, Nolan Woodard.
