J. Jonah Jameson officially becomes the Ebenezer Scrooge of the Marvel Universe when he tries to cancel Christmas in Amazing Spider-Man #15.
The following contains spoilers for Amazing Spider-Man #15, now on sale from Marvel Comics.
It may be the most wonderful time of year, but J. Jonah Jameson certainly isn’t feeling any holiday cheer as the Daily Bugle editor-in-chief cancels Christmas and then forces everyone to work late in Marvel’s Amazing Spider-Man #15.
Amazing Spider-Man #15 comes from writer Zeb Wells, penciler Ed McGuinness, inker Cliff Rathburn, colorist Marcio Menyz and letterer VC’s Joe Caramagna. In Dark Web #1, Madelyne Pryor/the Goblin Queen attacked New York City from Limbo with the help of Ben Reilly/Chasm, Venom/Eddie Brock and Janine Godbe/Hallow’s Eve. The attack has involved turning inanimate objects — such as mailboxes, baby strollers, Christmas trees and more — into living, mutated demons from Marvel’s Otherplace.
J. Jonah Jameson is watching New York City crumble as Madelyne’s attack continues in Amazing Spider-Man #15. After witnessing a “yellow cab shiv an Uber over a passenger,” Jameson tells his Daily Bugle staff they won’t be spending the holiday with their evening this year. “It’s official…Christmas is canceled!” he says. “We’re working late tonight, people! New York’s gone to hell, and we’re gonna own the story!” As Jameson walks into his office, however, he finds Chasm waiting for him for reasons that currently remain unknown. “Hate to break it to you, Jameson,” Chasm says. “New York’s not the only thing going to hell.”
Chasm and J. Jonah Jameson Are Tangled in Marvel’s Dark Web
While Jameson’s fate remains to be seen, Chasm later appears near the end of the issue to challenge Spider-Man/Peter Parker to a fight. Amazing Spider-Man #15 marks the first time Peter learns his clone is still alive after Ben fell into a large pool of chemicals in 2022’s Amazing Spider-Man #293 (by Wells, Patrick Gleason, Bryan Valenza and VC’s Joe Caramagna).
Despite the fact that Peter is still recovering from a fight with Venom — which Spider-Man ultimately wins through use of fire — the two will face one another in Amazing Spider-Man #16 (by Wells, Cliff Rathburn, Menyz, McGuinness and Caramagna), which releases Dec. 28 from Marvel. The synopsis for the issue reads, “Spider-Man VS. Chasm!! After the battle with Venom last issue, it’s time for the main event… That’s right, it’s Peter Parker vs. Ben Reilly, no-holds-barred in the craziest battle you’ve ever seen! Chasm secures his place in Spidey’s rogues’ gallery…as the one who finally vanquishes Peter Parker?!”
Amazing Spider-Man #15 features cover art by John Romita Jr., Scott Hanna and Menyz. The issue is on sale now from Marvel.
