Thor is still in production. The God of Thunder, Jane Foster, reunites to defend his family and friends in New Asgard. Christian Bale’s Gorr The God Butcher is the latest threat to the title hero. He’s undoubtedly one of the most intense and terrifying villains in the MCU.
In the lead up to Thor4 ‘s release, there was much discussion about how Bale would portray his antagonist. He brought a character that is quite frightening compared with many of his Marvel Comics counterparts. It was made clear from the get-go that this look wouldn’t be 100% comic accurate, but upon his first appearance in the film’s second trailer, fans were quick to share their excitement for what was on the way.
The biggest difference Gorr made from comics to Thor4 , was that he didn’t have alien tendrils. This made Gorr look more human than his passionate portrayal on the screen by Christian Bale. This wasn’t the only change that was made to Gorr’s character in Thor 4, as the movie’s new concept art shows how Bale’s design evolved throughout production.
Concept art shows more Alien Gorr than Thor 4
Character creator Ken Barthelmey shared new concept art on Instagram depicting Christian Bale as Gorr, the God Butcher in Marvel Studios’ Thor : Love and Thunder .
His original design for Gorr made him appear more alien-like, with his slit nostrils that look almost like gills and wrinkles on his face. To give Gorr a scarier look, you can see a few protrusions from the back of his skull.

The second design retained the skull and head structure of the original, but the facial shape was significantly altered.
The eyes are identical. However, this version has a longer vertical nose and six nostrils that flare out while Gorr growls at anything in his path. His teeth look more gnarled and separated in this movie than it did in real life, making him even more frightening.

Barthelmey pointed out that the designs were created long before Christian Bale was cast and that Bale enjoyed the part.
“Early Gorr was a design that I created for Thor: Love and Thunder in Odd Studio before Christian Bale. Bale’s performance of the role was amazing. Adam Johansen, for inviting me to join. “
Thor 4’s Journey with Gorr’s Look On Screen
Gorr The God Butcher was a concern for fans heading to Thor ,, although Christian Bale delivered a great performance. These images reveal how terrifying the MCU’s new villain might have appeared if Bale had utilized more prosthetics and/or special effects to enhance his look.
Director Taika Waititi described Bale’s Gorr as the best MCU villain to date, taking things up a notch from what Cate Blanchett brought as Hela in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. It’s not clear if the scary look added any value to Bale’s inclusion, but the main complaint from fans about this character was that there weren’t more.
The MCU is definitely moving towards including more frightening elements in its stories, as shown by Doctor Strange or some sections of Moon Knight . Although Gorr might not look as frightening as it could in the final design, there are still characters that the MCU doesn’t avoid.
Thor – Love and Thunder are now showing in cinemas around the world.
