Marvel’s Midnight Suns is home to some exciting side challenges and rewards, including a Child of Darkness challenge that can prove difficult.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns has shown the full capacity of gameplay concepts that the Marvel Universe can provide. While many are used to the traditional third-person action-adventure format, Firaxis Games has introduced a brand-new combat style that’s common for many strategy players but may be new to Marvel fans. However, this unique combat style isn’t the only thing that Marvel’s Midnight Suns has introduced to gaming and comic fans that none could’ve anticipated.
Another aspect of the game that Marvel fans will likely find entertaining is the ability to build friendships with the many Marvel heroes in the game. As a totally new player, the supernatural-themed Hunter has much to learn about how the modern age handles heroes and anti-heroes. They must also hone their skills with various challenges that are curated by Tony Stark, and those who complete them are welcome to the game’s Midnight Sun Legendary Combat Suit. The first challenge is something of a puzzle and can be far more difficult than expected. Here’s how players can beat the Child of Darkness challenge.
What the Child of Darkness Challenge Requires
While playing the Child of Darkness challenge is a feat on its own, obtaining the challenge takes a few steps of its own. For starters, players must defeat the Fallen Venom boss battle to unlock the chance to take on the challenge. Then the Armory upgrade must be built in the Forge, which requires players to be at Research level 4.
The landscape of the challenge has the player facing three grunts spread out in a small arena. In the top right corner is a crystal that must be destroyed by knocking one of the grunts into it. However, with only four Charge cards, it’s up to the player to solve the puzzle and complete the mission before spending all the moves. Once a grunt is in the proper position to destroy the crystal, the player can use the Whip attack to fling the grunt into the crystal, opening the chance to destroy the final crystal with Bladestorm, but there’s a unique pattern players must follow in order to do this.
How To Beat the Child of Darkness Challenge
The Child of Darkness challenge may be considered something of a combat challenge, but its puzzle elements make it more interesting. The correct sequence to move the grunts into position isn’t the easiest to decipher. Players begin in the bottom right corner of the map. First, they must charge the grunt on the bottom left into the one on the top left of the map. After that, the player has to charge and KO the grunt in the top left corner, behind the one that was just knocked over there. Once that grunt is KO’d, the grunt closest to the player must be thrown into the opposite end of the map, between the crystal and the grunt in the bottom right corner. From there, players can KO the grunt in the bottom right and throw the middle Grunt directly next to the crystal, allowing for Whip to then toss them into the crystal.
What the Player Gets for Completing the Child of Darkness Challenge
For destroying the black crystal at the end of the challenge, players are granted the Bladestorm ability, a legendary card that damages enemies considerably. Visually, the attack has The Hunter take their swords and ignite them in flames. With a powerful sweep, they create a devastating fire cyclone that damages anything in its vicinity. From a technical level, the attack only costs four heroism but offers 100% damage output and can be upgraded with a duplicate card.
Once players complete the challenge, they obtain the Bladestorm attack to add to their deck, and they also receive the Midnight Suns suit. The suit has already become iconic in its own right as the game’s main team suit both in trailers and on the cover. Further challenges can unlock the other Midnight Suns suits for the rest of the team.
Child of Darkness is a strange challenge in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, but one that’s highly rewarding. Furthermore, knowing the proper pattern to defeat the level will later remind players that placement is key and is a strategy that could be used in future battles. In the end, Child of Darkness perfectly uses the game’s fundamentals to create a challenging puzzle for players.
