Marvel’s Midnight Suns offers many chances for players to build friendships with its heroes, but romance may also be on the table for others.
The world of video games was given a unique title with Marvel’s Midnight Suns for a few clever reasons. The gameplay style is a mix of card-based combat and XCOM-style strategy. What results is a title wherein players have to strategize their decks as well as movements to maximize damage while keeping their heroes as safe as possible. Between missions, though, the player can also speak with other heroes and build friendships with them to earn rewards. That said, there is no sign of options to romance the heroes, but that doesn’t mean that romance is dead throughout the proceedings.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns focuses heavily on Marvel’s supernatural elements, which include characters from Lilith to Ghost Rider. However, the most interesting additions came from obscure and unlikely Marvel content. These names include the vampire hunter Blade and totally unexpected additions like the cosmic hero Captain Marvel. What makes the game even more engaging is that these unlikely names spend time interacting with each other and have small storylines worth seeing through to the end. Blade and Captain Marvel’s pairing is particularly interesting in that it has notes of romantic feelings.
Blade Has a Serious Crush on Captain Marvel
As a character, Blade has always been a reserved type who rarely speaks his mind unless it benefits the greater issue. When it comes to personal desires, even fewer people know what he’s thinking. That said, after a battle with Hydra, Blade manages to open up to The Hunter about what he thinks of Carol Danvers. Even still, it requires coaxing on the player’s part. After seeing Blade in The Abbey, the player has some options to get a deeper opinion of Carol from Blade. Whether players choose to say, “Yes. She’s something else.” or “Are you hinting at something?”, it will immediately force Blade to react suspiciously as his true feelings shine through. Players can then dig even deeper with dialogue options such as “This is hard for you, isn’t it?” and “Should I spell it out for you…”, which will eventually annoy Blade and end the conversation. That said, it doesn’t mean the story is over.
Players can also speak with Captain Marvel about Blade, to which she responds with similar admiration. The moment that the two join Captain America and The Hunter in the book club, things get interesting. As The Hunter talks to Carol, she explains that she found it nice to have a book club that was more relaxed than Stark and Banner’s. However, it becomes apparent that she likely supported it because she recognized and took an interest in Blade’s attempts to get to know her better. That said, the best part is how the story finds its eventual conclusion.
Do Blade And Captain Marvel Ever Get Together?
Players that devote their downtime to the romance between Blade and Captain Marvel will find themselves rewarded when The Hunter stumbles upon the two sharing a quiet moment outside in the evening. However, rather than just sharing some light banter, genuine flirting indicates a flame slowly growing between them. Just as the player would have begun to doubt that their pairing could go somewhere, The Hunter crashing the date between them results in both parties trying to get rid of the player so that they can be alone.
While there’s not much in the way of romance in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, what’s offered between Blade and Carol Danvers is more than sufficient. It’s a short side story, but it’s cute on many levels. It shows a softer side to Blade and offers an opportunity to see that love can come from the most unlikely places. Ultimately, whether or not it’s a crucial part of the story, the romance between Blade and Captain Marvel provides a human element to Marvel’s Midnight Suns that reminds players that protecting the Earth will always be about protecting those that matter.
