Big things are coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But one event may allude to Arishem’s final judgment following the events of Eternals.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is best known for how it started small and eventually grew into a time-traveling epic where a group of heroes must restore half of all life in the universe. When explaining these events to a passive fan, it may seem more far-fetched than it actually is. But even though Thanos seemed like the ultimate villain, Phase Four and beyond have set up even more dangerous scenarios and enemies.
For starters, the MCU has established that there are forces at work in the supernatural sense that could amount to a dangerous battle involving characters like Blade. However, the main focus has been none other than Kang the Conqueror, whose actions may kickstart another multiversal war that could end every existence. But there’s another danger on the horizon that involves the creators of the galaxy, The Celestials. But that epic battle could already be set up thanks to the recent Marvel Comics event Judgment Day by Kieron Gillen and Valerio Schiti.
What Is Arishem’s Plan After Eternals?
In Eternals, the titular team succeeded in stopping the birth of the Celestial Tiamut and saved Earth as a result. Though they did the right thing, their creator, Arishem, took the remaining Eternals that stayed on Earth and planned to use their memories as a final judgment for humanity. Should they pass, the Earth would be spared. But if Arishem deems the planet unworthy to survive, he could bring about its extinction. That said, the rest of the planet isn’t aware of this, and with no Eternals on the planet, it could lead to more cosmic dangers in the MCU’s future.
Judgment Day was a story where the Eternals, X-Men and Avengers initially butted heads over the resurrection of a long-dormant Celestial. But when it was revived, it deemed the planet unworthy and, in its failure, eliminated a large amount of the population. Ultimately, it took the unification of all three factions to try and outsmart and stop the Celestial, but even in their success, the teams learned that judgment never ends, and the Earth could fail at any moment, ultimately changing the Marvel Universe forever.
How the MCU Could Lead to Judgment Day
As of now, the MCU has a lot on its plate in terms of threats. Plus, with Mutants and The Fantastic Four on the way, the heroes will need all the help they can get against Kang the Conqueror. But the events of Avengers: Secret Wars could also change things, and its conclusion could see reality rewritten to include new story elements. That said, the state of the Celestials could remain unaffected as they are some of the most powerful beings in all of reality. With all that said, it could mean that Arishem’s judgment may come in later phases but still be just devastating.
As the MCU heroes fight and make heroic choices and dangerous mistakes, Arishem can watch and judge from a distance. But the possible changing of reality could also force him to judge humanity even more. If so, his reappearance could lead to a deadly confrontation as Judgment Day would finally be at hand. Depending on how they carry themselves during the planet’s most dangerous battles could also dictate how devastating Arishem’s judgment could be. Nevertheless, these coming events could inform another confrontation that current comics have shown could yield deadly results.
