While it might not be the action-filled superhero epic that fans might expect from a popular Marvel game, Marvel’s Midnight Suns has become a huge hit with gamers. The game combines elements of role-playing games such as a rich narrative, character relationships, and customization options with the tactics and combat-focused mechanics of a strategy card game. As a result, it’s been getting a lot of love not just from Marvel fans who want to expand on the stories of beloved characters, but gamers who gravitate toward tactics games.

Build Relationships and Morality in Mass Effect Legendary Edition Guardians of the Galaxy Is Sure to Please Marvel Fans Fire Emblem: Three Houses Has a Good Mix of Midnight Suns Elements Arkham Knight Is One of the Best Superhero Games of All Time

In Marvel’s Midnight Suns, players take on the role of The Hunter, a customizable superhero, who leads a team of fan-favorite Marvel superheroes and supernatural warriors against dark forces threatening to take over the world. From a character roster including members of the Avengers, X-Men, Runaways, and more, players choose a team of three characters to take with them into battle and are randomly dealt ability cards from their decks to use during the mission. Here are a few recommendations for fans eager to play games similar to Marvel’s Midnight Suns.

Build Relationships and Morality in Mass Effect Legendary Edition

A lineup of three characters from Mass Effect 3

A lot of gamers have mentioned Bioware games when discussing titles that may have influenced Marvel’s Midnight Suns. While it’s not clear if the developers kept Mass Effect in mind while making Midnight Suns, there’s a lot in common between them in terms of the RPG elements. Building relationships with different teammates is central to any Bioware game, but Mass Effect also features a morality system that might remind fans of the Light and Dark choices in Midnight Suns.

Fans who take a chance on this iconic RPG series should keep in mind that this isn’t a tactics-based game wherein players can take their time with decisions. While there is strategy involved, Mass Effect is an action-packed third-person shooter.

XCOM 2 game

Firaxis Games, the developers who created Marvel’s Midnight Suns, has also created a number of other iconic games including Sid Meier’s Civilization and XCOM. Fans who enjoy the combat of Midnight Suns should check out XCOM 2: War of the Chosen, which has very similar turn-based combat mechanics and a focus on strategy.

While it’s not card-based, XCOM is sure to please anyone who’s looking for a highly tactical game. While there has been a more recent XCOM release, it’s only available on PC, while XCOM 2, which is favored by many gamers, is playable on a number of consoles including PC, macOS, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Guardians of the Galaxy Is Sure to Please Marvel Fans

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Star-Lord Jumping In Combat.

There have been a lot of Marvel games that have released in recent years, but not all of them have been great. However, fans of Marvel’s Midnight Suns who want to jump into another game centered on their favorite Marvel heroes will love the Guardians of the Galaxy game. While it might not have the wide variety of playable characters that Midnight Suns features, it does fantastic things with the team that it has. Players control Star-Lord and must learn what it means to work in a team with characters who have become a found family. Fans who think they know this team from the comics or the MCU films will be surprised to see some different sides of them in this game.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses Has a Good Mix of Midnight Suns Elements

While there are a lot of Fire Emblem games, most of which have similar mechanics to each other, Three Houses is the most recent mainline game to have been released. It has the perfect blend of turn-based combat and relationship-building camaraderie that fans of Marvel’s Midnight Suns adore.

While the cast of characters is a lot bigger than in Midnight Suns, they are all complex and very well-written, so players will love getting to know them. Like in Midnight Suns, forming relationships is well worth it as bonds between the protagonist and allies will result in those allies giving the player in-game bonuses. A Nintendo Switch exclusive, Fire Emblem: Three Houses is terrific on the go or at home.

Arkham Knight Is One of the Best Superhero Games of All Time

Batman walks away from the Batmobile in the rain in Batman Arkham Knight

In Arkham Knight, Batman is tasked with taking down the Scarecrow, who has launched an attack on Gotham City. Part of what makes the Arkham games so appealing is that they do a fantastic job of making players feel like they truly are Batman. With a focus on stealth abilities, detective skills, and various gadgets, this game highlights what fans love about the Dark Knight, and any superhero fan will have a wonderful time with this.

Any of the Batman: Arkham games would be a good choice, but the most recent is perfect for newcomers. If they enjoy it, they can look forward to the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which picks up where Arkham Knight ends.
