The newest Addams family project, Wednesday, premiered on Netflix in November 2022. The horror show was an instant hit, quickly raking in views and gaining immense popularity. Even long-term fans of The Addams Family are impressed, as Wednesday is compelling, entertaining, and kooky. Jenna Ortega brought Wednesday Addams to life and did an incredible job.
Ortega brought so much to the role beyond what had been seen before and had clearly done her research. While no one can deny Ortega’s talents, other actors might’ve also been suitable for the role. These talented actors have the look and skills to pull off an eccentric and morbid character like Wednesday.
10/10 Camila Mendes Is A Scene Stealer
Camila Mendes is best known for her role as Veronica Lodge in the guilty pleasure series, Riverdale, and she went on to win a Teen Choice award. The award was for Mendes’ skills as a Scene Stealer, which is exactly what she would need to be as Wednesday Addams.
Mendes has the perfect look for Wednesday, as she and Ortega are both Latina. The actor has black hair, which makes it easy to envision her as an Addams. While she is older than the character, Mendes has proved her snarky, sarcastic nature in other projects she’s been in. She certainly has the skills to embody Wednesday’s deadpan expression.
9/10 Auli’i Cravalho Could’ve Brought Something New To Wednesday
Auli’i Cravalho is best known for her role in Moana, as the voice actor for the titular character. Cravalho is an incredible musician who has experience in the film industry. Since Moana, Cravalho has worked with both NBC and Netflix.
Cravalho currently has other projects in the works, but she could’ve continued her partnership with Netflix by joining the cast of Wednesday. Starring in Wednesday would allow more audiences to enjoy her talent. Wednesday and Morticia’s strained relationship has come to light in Season 1 of the Netflix series, and Cravalho has previously brought this dynamic to life when she played Lilette in Rise.
8/10 Adelaide Kane Has A History With Fantasy
Adelaide Kane has starred in Reign, Power Rangers RPM, and Teen Wolf, cementing herself as a drama, superhero, and fantasy actor. The Australian is 32 years old, which is older than Wednesday, and likely why she wouldn’t have been cast for the role. However, Kane really does look the part and would perfectly fit in with the Addams family.
Kane has been in the entertainment industry since she was a child, starting at just six years old. She could’ve brought this lengthy experience and expertise to the role of Wednesday, especially her experiences in drama and fantasy shows.
7/10 Wednesday Would Be A Break-Through Role For Emily Robinson
Emily Robinson is not only an actor, but she’s a producer and director as well. She has worked on Transparent, Virgin Territory, and Eighth Grade. Robinson is a lesser-known actor, but Wednesday would’ve easily been her breakthrough role.
Robinson began her career at just six years old when she began modeling. She went on to work on Saturday Night Live! before debuting in films. Robinson has since won two awards and, with the same look as Wednesday Addams, she would’ve brought a fresh face and new talent onto fans’ screens.
6/10 Dafne Keen Could’ve Handled The Pressure
Dafne Keen is a British-Spanish actor and, at just 17, has already proved herself to be a star. Keen portrays the mutant Laura, Wolverine’s daughter, in the 2017 film Logan. The film was widely successful and Keen was praised immensely for her excellent performance.
Keen’s work in a huge international film like Logan, alongside A-list star Hugh Jackman, proves that she can work very well under immense pressure. Her dark hair, charisma, and presence means she could be an excellent Wednesday Addams, especially as Wednesday grows to be a better investigator and writer.
5/10 Emma Myers Could Have Taken On A Different Role
Emma Myers plays Enid Sinclair in Wednesday, but the natural brunette could have played the titular character just as well. Of course, Myers is beloved as Enid, who is eccentric, fun, colorful, and loyal.
However, Myers’ work makes some fans believe that she could’ve been cast as Wednesday. She managed to steal every scene, and her commanding and charming presence on-screen cannot be understated. As fans have seen, Myers has incredible talent, bringing to life a lost girl who hasn’t quite nailed her werewolf abilities. It would be interesting to see her take on the role of Wednesday, the polar opposite of Enid.
4/10 Maisie Williams Has The Experience
Maisie Williams is best known for her role as Arya Stark in Game of Thrones. In the series, Arya is a confrontational, brave, and resilient person who rebukes gender stereotypes. Arya is a fierce fighter, which are characteristics she shares with Wednesday.
Williams has an edgy style, as seen on her social media and, in particular, her outfit at the 2021 Met Gala. She could easily pull off Wednesday Addams’ signature look. She appears to have no problem with stunts, as seen in Game of Thrones, and could’ve performed well in the new Netflix series. Additionally, Williams is no stranger to huge character journeys, which is needed for a character like Wednesday, who’s always growing and evolving.
3/10 Bella Ramsey Has More To Give
19-year-old Bella Ramsey has also made herself known through her role in the fantasy TV series, Game of Thrones. Ramsey exhibited her talent when she portrayed Lyanna Mormont, a noblewoman who had taken the reins of the Mormont house at a particularly young age. Lyanna is fiery, bold, and brave. She’s also small, but that doesn’t stop her from joining in the fight and taking on a giant. A lot of these characteristics are seen in Wednesday’s character.
It is clear that Ramsey has more talent to give, and with the incredible opportunity of portraying Wednesday for Netflix, she could’ve shone. Similar to Jenna Ortega, Ramsey is another breakout actor of recent years.
2/10 Emily Carey Was Similarly Deadpan
Emily Carey portrayed the young Alicent Hightower in the hit new series House of the Dragon. Having starred in the prequel series of Game of Thrones, she is familiar with working on shows that features magical and mythical creatures. This would come in handy if she portrayed Wednesday, who comes across sirens, werewolves, vampires, shapeshifters, and hydes.
Additionally, Carey’s character in House of the Dragon isn’t a particularly happy one. Young Alicent rarely smiles or displays true grief in House of the Dragon, which is certainly the same for the emotionless Wednesday Addams. Furthermore, Carey is 19 years old, a suitable age to play Wednesday.
1/10 Iman Vellani Has Shot To Superstardom
Iman Vellani shot to fame following the release of Ms. Marvel, in which she plays the titular character. Her introduction to Marvel and the superhero universe is a huge step, but Vellani proved that she could handle it. Fans loved Kamala Khan, and the MCU series enjoyed huge success. Her incredible performance will be continued in the upcoming MCU movie, The Marvels.
Vellani was destined to play Kamala Khan, a more relatable and happy character than Wednesday. However, both characters have a ridiculous amount of courage and gall, and branching into this character could’ve been an amazing next step for the young Iman Vellani.
