Marvel has some of the best, most iconic villains in fiction. They also happen to have some of the most overpowered villains as well. Sure, Marvel heroes aren’t underpowered, and often possess abilities that seem insurmountable. But many Marvel villains push being an even match for the hero just a little too far.

Villains like Vulcan and Doctor Doom possess a list of powers that would make people balk. They have such ridiculous powers that it almost feels unbelievable to see any of them ever lose a fight. Still, when the villains raise the stakes to this level, it’s only fair to see how the heroes fight back.

10/10 Selene Relies On The Life Force Of Others To Gain Powers

Selene wields elite power in Marvel Comics

Selene made her first appearance in New Mutants #9 by Chris Claremont, Sal Buscema, Tom Mandrake, Glynis Wein, and Tom Orzechowski. She’s one of the Externals, which means she’s technically immortal, though she continues to maintain her powers through draining other people’s life.

With other people’s life force energy inside her, she can grant herself the generic suite of super-speed and reflexes. But she’s also got access to various telepathic and telekinetic abilities, including creating force fields and creating mental blasts to knock people out. She’s even got power over sorcery that she’s attained over years of being around other mages.

9/10 Apocalypse Is One Of The Earliest Mutants

The Fate of X-Men's Sentient Island Rests in Apocalypse's Hands

One of the oldest mutants on the planet, Apocalypse has been a problem for the X-Men since he first ran into them back in the late 1980s. With him being physically altered by the powerful Celestials, he’s got a collection of powers that rivals every hero and villain out there.

He’s already got super-strength, speed, and durability, but that’s just the start of his powers. He can also control his size through shape-shifting, growing bigger or larger as needed. And thanks to his advanced technology he can add more superpowers as necessary.

8/10 Ultron Is An Advanced Robot Intelligence

An image of Ultron powering himself up in Savage Avengers 6

Ultron is Hank Pym’s greatest creation, having exceeded everything Hank could have dreamed of making. Over the years, he’s continuously upgraded his body to make himself more powerful. With a shell made of adamantium, his body is nearly impenetrable, while he possesses strength on par with some of the greatest Marvel heroes.

He has access to a vast array of energy blasts, and can summon other robots as needed. His time in space allows him to control and bend nearly anything technological to his will. Forcibly fusing with Pym, he even has access to Pym Particles now. His abilities are so great even the time-traveling Kang the Conqueror struggles fighting Ultron, who nearly wiped out humanity.

7/10 Galactus Wields The Power Cosmic

Galactus uses his powers to construct a new device.

Galactus is a remnant of a previous universe, one that was far more science-based in nature. He was smart enough to find a way to protect himself and survive into the creation of the sixth universe, and in doing so was transformed into a being of incredible power. As the wielder of the Power Cosmic, his abilities have been elevated to make him a near godlike being.

His strength, speed, and even durability are off the charts, surpassing even the most powerful heroes and villains. He’s also capable of projecting and absorbing energy, draining the powers of the stars themselves. Even his size isn’t accurate, as he can make himself grow whenever he wants.

6/10 Dark Phoenix Has Almost Infinite Power

The Phoenix Force is an all-encompassing power that has occasionally found host bodies in the form of the Grey family. While the Phoenix Force can and has been used for good, when spending too long within a human host it can become corruptible. During The Dark Phoenix Saga, Jean Grey has near omnipotence.

She has the ability to create flames that can exist both in the vacuum of space and underwater, can manipulate time and revive people back to life whenever she wants. She can also transmute both living and inanimate matter, however she wants. She’s even capable of wiping out all existence if she chooses.

5/10 Doctor Doom Is A Master Magician

Doctor Doom Wields Thor and Captain America's Weapons in Marvel's All-Out Avengers Trailer

While Victor Von Doom is most known for his incredible intellect, that’s not the only power he possesses. Doom over the years has acquired a number of abilities that make him a global threat. He’s trained enough in the mystic arts to be a rival to Doctor Strange himself.

Doom possesses the ability to summon creatures from other realms, manipulate the elements, and even lock off other people’s powers with his spells. That’s all without counting the multiple times he’s stolen power from being with near infinite power to use as his own, something Doom’s done so frequently it should count as a power all on its own. He’s also got the ability to transfer his mind into other beings, and even control technology itself.

4/10 Vulcan Summers Wields More Power Than The Other Summers Brothers

Vulcan aka Gabriel Summers

Vulcan Summers stacks the powers up like he found them on discount. After M-Day, Vulcan absorbed a massive amount of energy from mutants which elevated his strength to what others considered beyond Omega Level. With Vulcan’s ability to absorb energy, he gains a number of special powers.

He’s capable of flight, even flying through outer space, he can generate several kinds of energy blasts, create solid constructs of energy, and even detect other people’s energy. He spent several years plaguing the X-Men until he was sent into space, where he became the Shi’ar Empire’s problem, eventually becoming their king.

3/10 Korvac Has Stolen Part Of The Power Cosmic

Korvac, the villain who killed the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy

Michael Korvac is one of the older Avengers villains, who’s managed to become a problem for the entire Marvel Universe in his appearances. He was originally just a human who was transformed into a super-computer. From there though, he was able to absorb part of the Power Cosmic from Galactus’ ship.

With that power, he’s achieved a status near that of a god. He can alter matter, project energy from his hands, and revive people whenever he wants. There doesn’t seem to be a limit to his abilities, and most of his losses come largely from the heroes having plot armor.

2/10 Molecule Man Is A Living Cosmic Cube

Molecule Man screaming in Marvel Comics

Molecule Man’s level of power is so great even he can’t truly control it, and he often feels the tremendous burden of it, which often changes his character. Some people view Owen as the strongest being in existence, thanks to his exposure to a particle generator.

He’s got the same level of power as a Cosmic Cube, which grants him powers like omnipotence, and being capable of manipulating matter to grant him a wide variety of abilities like the appearance of super-strength and teleportation. He’s even able to completely alter reality, creating entire galaxies with no help from anyone else.

1/10 Beyonder Was Meant To Be The Strongest Villain

An image of the Beyonder in his silver battle armor

When Beyonder was introduced, Marvel clearly intended for him to be the strongest character anyone in the Marvel Universe ever encountered before they weakened him. He wielded reality warping powers on a level never seen before. His telepathy can simultaneously touch the minds of everyone in the world.

Beyonder can heal himself of any damage he takes at any moment, and is capable of everything from teleporting himself around the universe to granting super-strength even the Hulk can’t really compete with. He’s the perfect kind of cosmic villain that makes everyone wonder where he came from and how can the heroes possibly defeat him.
