Marvel’s greatest heroes are respected by their fellow heroes, inspiring every life they touch. There are some great heroes though, ones who have saved the Earth many times over, who still aren’t trustworthy. When it comes to saving the day, they can be depended upon. However, that’s as far as trusting them goes.
These Marvel heroes have done plenty of shady things, lying to their fellow heroes and deceiving innocent people so they could have their way. Some of them might not lie, but they can’t be trusted to work well with others or look out for themselves first and foremost. They’re great heroes, but they aren’t perfect heroes.
10/10 Black Panther Puts Wakanda First And Foremost
Many Marvel heroes have political careers and Black Panther is perhaps the most prominent. He’s a well-known leader on the world stage. In recent years, he’s led the Avengers, but his past tenures with the team showed that he wasn’t exactly trustworthy. If it comes to choosing between Wakanda and anything else, T’Challa will always choose Wakanda.
The Black Panther will lie and cheat if it means Wakanda will prosper. He puts his people first, which is what should be expected of a monarch. The fact that his most recent tenure as an Avenger was so successful is a change of pace for him since he’s left the team multiple times so he could better rule Wakanda.
9/10 Scarlet Witch Breaks Too Easily
Scarlet Witch is the most powerful member of the Avengers. She’s been instrumental in many of the team’s victories, but trusting her can be rather hard. Scarlet Witch is known for breaking and betraying the team. She’s gone through some very traumatic experiences and, as a result, has attacked the team multiple times.
Scarlet Witch can be trusted most of the time, but everyone keeps an eye on her. It’s hard to know how some things are going to affect her, and when Scarlet Witch breaks, she breaks very badly. She’s a big gun, but sometimes that gun gets turned on her closest friends.
8/10 Havok’s Mind Has Been Messed With Too Many Times
Havok has had a rough time. He lost his parents at a young age, was separated from his brother, and then had to live in Cyclops’s shadow when he joined the X-Men. He’s been mind-controlled multiple times, leaving him easily manipulated, and he had his morality inverted in AXIS. Havok can be a great hero and leader, but he’s also rather fragile when it comes right down to it.
It’s hard to know which version of Havok is going to show up on any given day. The ease that he can be manipulated with has affected him very badly, to the point that he was part of the Hellions, a team for mutants who weren’t stable. Havok’s problems have dragged down everyone around him many times.
7/10 The Hulk Is Rage Personified
The Hulk has defeated Marvel’s strongest characters. He’s been an Avenger and a Defender, helping to battle the worst threats to the Earth. He’s also been known to attack the people he’s worked with in the past. It’s hard to always call it betrayal, but the Hulk is definitely an untrustworthy hero.
The problem with the Hulk is that he is controlled by his anger. He’ll turn on a dime in the middle of a fight depending on which Hulk is in control. Some Hulks are known for being liars, making crafty plans that often revolve around trickery and lies. The Hulk’s power is sometimes necessary, but no hero relishes working with him.
6/10 Daredevil’s Lawyer Background Makes Him Okay With Lies
Daredevil is Marvel’s best lawyer. For years, Matt Murdock was a defense lawyer. While Murdock does his best to only represent people who are innocent, defense lawyers have to manipulate facts. Daredevil has taken this to heart. Lies aren’t always bad, so Daredevil has no problem lying when he needs to.
The best example of this was when Daredevil’s identity was revealed. He lied to everyone around him, including his friends, even when his secret identity was obviously blown. Daredevil is still a great hero, and he’s saved many lives over the years. However, there’s always the chance that he’ll lie if it’s convenient.
5/10 The Beast Has Become Very Amoral
Many Marvel heroes aren’t honorable, and there are a variety of reasons behind this. For the Beast, it was the tribulations of the mutant race post-M-Day. He watched his people reduced to a pitiful remnant and saw them victimized over and over again. After Cyclops became Dark Phoenix, Beast decided to take a chance with the space-time continuum and bring the original five X-Men from the past into his timeline.
Beast joined the Illuminati and helped them commit genocide on a massive scale during the Incursions. He’s led X-Force on Krakoa and has embraced black ops like he was born to it. He keeps secrets, commits atrocities, and constantly justifies his behaviors with more lies and obfuscations. At this point, no one should trust Hank.
4/10 Professor X Has Used His Powers To Keep Secrets And Lie For Years
Many Marvel heroes keep secrets, but few are as good at it as Professor X. It’s part of the nature of his powers. Xavier’s telepathy makes it a snap for him to make people forget he lied to them or what he lied about. He has no problem using his powers to protect his people and as a leader he’s lied to his students many times.
Professor X is a former member of the Illuminati and he founded the mutant nation of Krakoa on a lie, keeping the truth about it and Moira MacTaggert from nearly everyone. The X-Men have suffered because of his lies many times and they’ve written him off before. However, they always give him another chance and he always lies again.
3/10 Namor Switches Sides All The Time
Namor the Sub-Mariner is the king of Atlantis. He’s a former member of the Defenders, Avengers, X-Men, Illuminati, and the Cabal. He’s helped save the world many times. He’s also attacked the surface world regularly. Namor switches sides like some heroes change their costumes.
Sometimes Namor’s a hero and sometimes he’s a villain. His closest ally in the world isn’t a superhero, but Doctor Doom. He’s known for having crushes on other heroes’ wives and girlfriends, especially blondes like Invisible Woman or Emma Frost. Namor is great to have as an ally, but the chances of him switching sides is basically fifty-fifty.
2/10 Odin Is Known For Being A Secretive Monarch
Thor is the hero of Asgard’s 10 Realms and Midgard. He’s known for being a very direct hero, something he definitely didn’t learn from his father Odin. As the ruler of Asgard, Odin is used to making decisions completely on his own. He’s made sacrifices for knowledge several times over his life and has knowledge he rarely shares with anyone.
Odin has kept knowledge from his sons many times over the years. Being a leader is a hard thing; Odin understands a big picture that his subjects can’t know. Trusting Odin can be a mistake, as he always plays his cards very close to the vest. In his mythological history, he’s almost always betrayed others when it suited him, making him the architect of many of his greatest problems.
1/10 Iron Man Has Lied To His Friends Many Times
Iron Man hasn’t always been the best hero. Sure, he’s a founding Avenger and has personally saved the Earth multiple times, but he’s often done it by being as pragmatic as possible. Iron Man is known for lying to his fellow heroes. He’s betrayed them in some big ways, working with the government during the Civil Wars and even going after his friends during the Armor Wars.
Iron Man helped found the Illuminati, a secret society that did as much harm as good. During the Incursions, he was culpable in genocide. Iron Man has no problem lying if it saves the day. His friends know that he’s going to give it his all, but they stopped expecting honesty from him long ago.
